Grassroots Motorsports Magazine just published their "25 Best Cars Ever List" and Z-Cars made #10. They define Best Cars as "the 25 cars that left the biggest impact on our automotive world".

In order they are:

1) Mazda Miata

2) BMW 3 Series

3) Honda Civic/CRX

4) Ford Mustang

5) Porsche 911

6) Chevy Corvette

7) Chevy Camaro

8) Mini Cooper

9) Factory 5 Roadster

10) Nissan Z-Car

11) VW GTI

12) Mazda RX-7 & RX-8

13) Subaru Impreza

14) SCCA Spec Racer

15) Toyota MR2

16) Lotus Elise

17) Mitsubishi Lancer EVO

18) DSM Eclipse/Talon/Laser

19) Dodge Neon

20) Honda S2000

21) Porsche Boxster

Not sure I really agree with their list (or the order) but an interesting list all the same.

I agree also.. I'm happy to see the Z on the list, but the order of these things will never please everyone.. I am surprised to see the Dodge Neon though. What did it contribute that no other front wheel drive four cylinder car didn't?

I wonder if they meant the Neon SRT-4, the high-performance turbo version. I don't see any reason why a regular Neon would be on there.

GMM just listed it as a Neon ... their quote: "the Neon was inexpensive and fast". Most of the write-ups just talked about the base car ... not the high water mark car.

Lines 2,3,6,7,8,9,11,12,13,14,15,,16,17,18,19,20,22,23,25 have no business being on any list.

This is a list from the skateboarders generation. Not much of a way to justify most of these on the list that 'left the biggest impact on the automotive world'. But, just like arguing with the spouse, it really doesn't matter anyway......... just an opinion

All of these "lists" are very subjective and I'll never understand how they come up the so-called rankings (Mazda Miata #1, give me a break!). Here's a list from Motor Trend that includes the 240Z and GTR:
