Any thought on having a car wrapped in vinyl?

Recommended Posts

Sarah,

It is silver metallic, 4 mils thick with a gloss laminate. It comes in a 60 inch wide format.

With sign vinyl thicker is not better, that is why 2 mil is much more expensive than 4. The thinner it is the easier it conforms and the longer it lasts. When using it for signs that will be outdoors the thickest you want to go is 2.5 mil for anything but a temporary sign (under 6 months). Even at that the 2.5 mil sign is expected to have a 4 year outdoor life while a 2 mil has a 7 year life. In the sign business it has to do with the wind blowing against the edge of the vinyl while outdoors, thinner vinyl has less edge.

Trying to wrap a car with no experience is going to be tough, especially with anything heavier than 2 mil. 2 mil will stretch much easier and conform to the curves.

I call it sign vinyl but it is the same stuff that wraps are made of. Oracal 751 is a great vinyl for the $$$

I am actually toying with some some very minor vinyl on my daily driver mazdaspeed3. Glossy black roof, and red mirrors. I will let you know how it turns out. Also, I as luck would have it, a car vinyl wrap company opened up 4 minutes from my house! good times!
