Price this car !!

I'm buying my first Z and I was wondering what you guys think about it and how much you think I should pay for it Any comment and help is appreciated.

The car is first gen 1970 240z 1400 vin number, most likely with 155k or it could be 55k don't know,

California, car, no rust or rot anywhere, only some surface rust by door jams.

It's been painted once in 80s, same as factory silver.

The dash has normal cracks, seats bottom needs works but overall decent interior.

The engine is original motor with matching 2400 valve cover, it comes with AC and it works, upgraded to 5 speed but he has the factory 4 speed for it.

It is at least 155K for sure.

I would say around $4500-5000, but I would pay $3000 because there might be rust where the after market rocker panels are. And I would check the floor also.

I believe you'll find rust under the rocker covers, under the battery tray, in the rear wheel wells (front of the rear wheel) and likely in the rear hatch lid.

$3,000-$6,000 seems right depending on rust.....

I think you're seeing mud kicked up by the wheels.

I agree with their prices. Check EVERYTHING. Check the frame VERY VERY CAREFULLY for rust, take your time, and entire undercarriage. Use a fridge magnet for the body but remember if it don't stick it's either Bondo or Primer from the repaint. Rev the engine with your hand from the engine bay noticing the response but don't redline it! On the test drive power down shift and to see if all is well with the clutch with no slipping. Listen to the engines in all rev ranges.

I think you're seeing mud kicked up by the wheels.

There's something under the mud too. It looks like the rockers have just been painted black. It is hard to tell if there is a trim strip added above that or not.

Could be, I just don't see it. :cross-eye I figured there was black paint under the mud but are you saying there is something like a door ding moulding running across the top? The last pic of the rocker on the driver side with the door open doesn't seem to show any chrome strip or moulding.

Thanks a lot guys !! I just wasn't sure about the value of the car and if being the first gen would make any difference or not, otherwise I do own several classic Nissans and Datsuns but this would be my first Z so I had to come here about that but the rest I know how the game goes.

Yes that is just two tone paint job they did, there is a little bit of rust under battery tray but I think more of surface rust than actual rust but I'm going to get the battery out for sure if I end up getting the can and check it out before.

I did look under the car and it was very clean but I'll do it again for sure.

He said he won't go lower than $5k so I just have to see how it goes and what are my other options are..... Thanks again for all of your inputs.

Well as far as your other options in my opinion it don't get much better than this. I mean it's a low vin 70 in more than decent shape from appearance. How can Otheres disagree if it's mechanically sound. If structurely sound its a definate go as mechanicals can be fixed easily at a good / set price. IMO
