Help needed to uncover the history of my Z

Hi again.

As far as i remember, my VIN is HLS30-69729. Manufacture date was (also -maybe- cause my Z is in rented garage, 3 miles from my home) 6/72

Its kinda funny that we have so different systems with car data, but also a bummer. I was just hoping that the very first owner ( i gotta check all my papers again to find out is there names) has some pics or whatever documents left.

yes, it is interesting to know the history of your car. In my case i was lucky enough to buy it from essentially the first owner. His son in law sold it to me but it has never been registered in his name so on title I am the second owner of my 74 2+2. met the original owner and talked to him about the car as well.

Yes, fortunately or unfortunately the spreadsheet is open to anyone. I created it so that people can maintain their own data without having to depend on someone else to maintain it for them. Other people have taken it beyond what I started with by adding new columns and even color coding. If some data is bad it's quite likely that it was an accident by someone not being careful. It is possible to go back to older revisions of the spreadsheet but it would probably be quicker to fix mistakes as they're spotted.

I just did some editing. I have some incomplete information about a bunch of cars missing from this list. I wonder if I should add it or mind my own business?

I say go ahead and add it. To me the more information the better. I suppose some people might be concerned about privacy but other than the engine number and build date none of the information gathered is something you couldn't record from a car in a parking lot. It's not like we're storing names and addresses and license plate numbers.

If you have the VIN correct - it would have a Manufacture Date of 02/72. I have HLS30 71162 listed as being in Seinajoki, Finland.

Boy, top part of spread sheet was really messed up. It said somebody else owned my '70 and they were parting it out:ermm: I fixed it, but I am sure others are messed up. The name and comments was disconnected from the S/N, engine, and colors grids

At this point, perhaps some type of database where there is a form to add your info, and then it goes into the master would be better. That way we don't have people who don't know what they are doing messing everything up!

I don't know where to start. Apparently Arne owns my car as his name is next to my vin, it is now red and not orange, and it was produced six month out of sequence.

Yes, a database would be far superior and ideally it would be hosted right here on this site. When I brought up that idea in the past it never got any traction. I wouldn't want to have to register a new domain and pay for server hosting.

Why don't you register with Carl's he keeps a good record and everyone can't change it (seelink I posted earlier. I prefer reliable system he has; you can't fully trust that spreadsheet

I started the spreadsheet in the first place after repeatedly failing to get my car listed in the other register.
