Sold my rx7 fc for a '73 with electric gremlins yay!

I've had plenty of experience dealing with electrical gremlins in a 73. Just make sure you have a good multimeter and know how to use it. Also, get a copy of the factory service manual. You'll need the wiring diagrams.

Welcome! You've come to the right place. I'm better with 280Zs but you'll find lots of help here. Got to love the Gerry Rafferty (Stealers Wheel) lyric in your signature!

I was going to say the very same thing, except the part about the 280Z. LOL

Haha wow, well thanks all for the warm welcome! But yeah I do have a multimeter and a 12v test light, as for right now I have a haynes a friend gave me but I am shopping for a factory manual right now. Basically my problem is that the previous-previous owner rewired the fuse box from the center console and moved it to the passenger firewall (where the battery is). So now I have 7 fuses bolted to the firewall with wires going everywhere. But I think my battle is just to trace everything back and re-wire them back to the fuse box (I just bought the MSA fuse box yesterday)

You may want to get a used wiring harness from someone like Z barn. Even if you have to rebuild it, it won't be as badly hacked as what you have.

Just tell him that you need a body wiring harness (and maybe instrument wiring harness) for your month/year Z. (Look at the build plate inside the driver's door.)

Steve

Blitz21, look at Steves signature, XenonS30, go there and download a FSM, download a 240z and a 260Z manual, you will need the 260Z, being the -73 is a odd mix (depends on the build date), i have never seen a -73 wiring diagram for a model with 3 wire tach.

Chris

Awesome, yeah the harness the previous owner gave me said it was for a '73...mine is a July '73 so I'm assuming it might've been for a early year instead of a later like mine.

EDIT:

wow I just checked out the xenons30 site...haha that fuse box looks almost exactly like mine! (with the melted middle fuse connector). Downloaded the FSM thanks again for all the help and of course I'll let everyone know when/how I fixed it.

Look behind your tach, check if you have a 3 or 4 wire, that will tell you, also do your intake have all that EGR stuff and flat top carbs ?.

Chris

My tach is a flat 3 wire connector, and the harness the PO gave me had the 4 square connector. As for the intake, it had the egr stuff and I have the stock carbs (not sure what you mean by "flat top", still new to carberation), with the stock orange air cleaner

There it is folks. In the engine pic you can see the mess of my "fuse box" by the battery. Since I've had the car I changed the wire going from the coil to the dist and the wire from the starter to the wire for the battery. I also put the air cleaner on and the car has had a thorough cleaning out. These pictures were taken by the previous owner so sorry if they're a little large.
