WingZr0 Posted April 21, 2010 Author Share #14 Posted April 21, 2010 (edited) Hopefully you won't have to take the test in the rain. Nah, cool thing is is that we get all certifed at the yard and then just go down to DMV and show them we're certifed and they hand us our CDL (Commercial Drivers License). Yes we do have to do a drive test but not by DMV thank gawsh, they're way stricter than being watched by folks we already know and like remember to spit on the glad hands... it's good luck Oooooo K, I'll take your word on for it Heard the othere companies sabotage our trucks alot. So yeah, for sure, spit on it. ~Z~ Edited April 25, 2010 by WingZr0 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/35486-anybody-hiring-in-the-sacramento-ca-area/?page=2#findComment-316650 Share on other sites
WingZr0 Posted April 25, 2010 Author Share #15 Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) Man I miss my Z, and more importantly the lady friend I like Think I'll call just to hear a friendly voice. Welp, school's heck of easy here and got my permit, start practiceing driving at the yard on Monday and do the drive test next Friday. Ship off the boys off to the Holiday Inn last night but I and the other Van Driver got stuck here at the Red Tile Inn till Mondy so we can bus over all the new guys to class so two of them can take the driving duties then me and the other guy will start the same gig at the Holiday Inn. I only valuntered to be a van driver cause Smell Hound aka Grey Hound lost my luggage at Sacramento and I wanted to go get my stuff. And that bag had all my cloths in it! Told the bus driver my bag had no tag on it, "he says set it down I'll take care of it". I say again that it has no tag on it, he repeats, "set it down I'll take care of it". Long story short I ended up wearing the same stuff I got on the bus with for 3 DAYS !! ! ! A T-shirt, jeans, my vintage Blue 1970's Union 76 Gas Station Shirt, socks and the shoes I had on my feet. When my bag finally arrived and I got back to the hotel room when I took my shoes off and my socks smelled like Corn Chips on Crack ! Took a shower and came out feeling 80 pounds lighter now that the crust was off me gone :paranoid: Yeah, he put a tag on it, WITH ABSOLUTELY NO INFORMATION ON IT. Didn't ask my name, where I was going or anything. And for the record EVER SINGLE Smell Hound Station has a "direct line or emergency number" where when you call they have to answer. I got into San Bernidino and saw that my stuff was gone and they told me it was in L.A. Got the LA bus station number at the ticket counter and the phone just rung and rung then the voice automated lady picked up then I pressed #3 for the baggage Dept. and it just rung and rung again then the automated lady said "that person is not availible at this time" and went back on loop to the main menu. After trying baggage and all the other departments for the next 30 minuts with the exact same results I went hung up and went back to the ticket guy for another number and he said that was the only number he had, mind you that was a LOS ANGELOS BUS STATION OF ALL PLACES! So anyway after calling Smell Hounds 1-800 number I got a 2nd number and got the same results as the 1st, same menu and everything and no one answered. Gave up after 10 minutes and called 800 again, "all I got is those 2 numbers sir". Called back the L.A. number, still no answer. 20 minutes later called 800 again, "I got only two numbers sir, this number and another number here sir." The other number was a third new number, mind you Smell Hound reps only have 1 or 3 numbers at most and ALL of them have mix matchs of any of them. So I called the third number, this time it just rings. I hang up call back and it rings again, so I let it ring for 10 minuts and NO ONE PICKS UP ! ! ! Call 800 AGIAN, "Those are the only numbers I have sir". I tell her that both those I already tried and no one's answering, "Sorry sir but those are the only numbers I have." I notice my phone only has 2 bars, guess where my charger is. . . . Hang, up call back 800, "I have this number and this number and another one." I tell thats a new one and ask if thats all the numbers she has, she says yes. Hang up and call the new number and get the same menu agian! Called 800 and got a 4th number and got another line that only keeps ringing! Then I look over at the Brotha man who saw my bag was not on the bus and he tels me that theres a number where if you call the have pick up and just ask the ticket guy for it, but of course he says he only has that one number. 5 more 800 reps later, 5 useless numbers I finally get hold of a lady who actualy knows what I'm talking about. I call that number and sure enough 3 rings later the baggage guy picks up, looks and says its's not there. I told him I came through Sacramento and he says that Sacramento was another spot where they take off bags with no tags on it. So I catch the cab to the hotel already knowing dang well I'm going to go through the same thing trying to get hold of Sacramento's bus station as I did with L.A. And my stuff wasn't going to arrive till tommorow anyway cause it's a 13 hour trip and thats even if it was there. Spent 30 buck on a new charger and a extra 10 just to detour to a Verizone store to get there. Got to the hotel rome charged the phone and sure enough 2 and a half hours, 5 phone numbers more and 6 1-800 reps later I finally get through to Sacramento and they have my stuff! Said it will go out 11pm that night and arrive at 9am. I said cool, went to class at 4am got at out 3pm, got to the station at 6pm and no bag! Called L.A. again (direct line) it ain't there. Called Sac ain't there! What do you mean it ain't there?, "Well it didn't got out at 11pm cause the baggage department is closed then so it went out on the 8am bus and will arrive 9pm. Same ticket counter guy was there and said that the next bus from LA was at 9 that night. Came back still no bag. The dang Sac bus was running late and missed the connecting bus in LA. Got my bag the 3rd day after class and the same ticket guy must of saw me with my head turned talking to a guy cause soon as I wlked in he had my bag already in his hand looking at me across the way, Finally ~! Finally got my draws after wearing the same ones 3 days. My Union 76 Shirt is all Brown stainded ring around the colar and needs dry cleaning now , nah but really  . So if your thinking of taking Smell Hound, DON'T Take AMTRAK. Heh Blake you wanna met up next Sunday? I may have some time off this Sunday but I'll let you know. Right now I'm in Colton just 5 miles up the freeway till Monday at the Red Tile Inn. Then they'll move me to the Holiday Inn on Haven Street up on Interstate 15 I think is what that freeways called. Anyways looking forward to meeting you Bro ~Z~ Edited April 25, 2010 by WingZr0 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/35486-anybody-hiring-in-the-sacramento-ca-area/?page=2#findComment-317156 Share on other sites

conedodger Posted April 25, 2010 Share #18 Posted April 25, 2010 UPS might be hiring and they start at 70K a year. Otherwise, there is a fleet that is based on the other side of the railroad tracks from our base of operations that is hell-a busy. I will find out their name and post it here for you. I see their guys coming in for fuel one after another all evening. I think they deliver to Raley's and Belair? I Used to work for Raleys and was the guy who let the trucker in and sit back and watch as he did all the work bringing in the stuff. A good excuse to take a Break! . But they sure get paid for It I'm told. BrianL1987 Posted April 25, 2010 Share #20 Posted April 25, 2010 Funny that you mentioned Ozark, I drive there for 16 years. Still know the management team well & would put in a word for you but, they will require 2 years experience (accident free) driving for another company before they will hire. They required 5 when I started there (so, its getting easier). Diggin you Z BTW, not to many truckers know what it is but the ones that do always strike up a convo cause I'm always talking how I'm tyring to get mines running :tapemouth. Oh check this out, in one of the training videos theres was a shoot from inside the truck looking down the freeway and a Silver 240Z pulled in right in front of it. I said, "A Datsun. I have one of those.", and nobody said anything :paranoid: Figures :stupid:. Well I just got back playing pool from Liams Irish Bar up the block, they have a Red Head girl up in there with the ligitimate Irish Accent, and got racked up by my new roommate. I call him Butter Shot he has the smoothest shot I've ever seen in a pool player. Silent touch and pin point accuracy. Said he used to move pool table for a little bit then started playing 60 to 90 games a day! Bascally he got hooked. He wanted to go pro but didn't, "like any job" he says, "you have to put in 40 hours a week then theres always the chance you'll lose you money". And Liams have a Pool Turnament this Wednesday and we're thinking about going! Yeah so I said if your ever in my area your names Butter Shot. He's from Colorado and said "thats a cool name, I might have to make that my CB handle". So I told him also that if I'm ever crossing that state line I'ma be like "Butter Shot Butter Shot come in. This is Don King whats your 20 come on" ~Z~ Edited April 25, 2010 by WingZr0 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/35486-anybody-hiring-in-the-sacramento-ca-area/?page=2#findComment-317190 Share on other sites
conedodger Posted April 26, 2010 Share #22 Posted April 26, 2010 Yep. Ozark. The fuel they put in those things tells me that they have to rolling a ton of miles. sblake01 Posted May 5, 2010 Share #24 Posted May 5, 2010 Congrats! I used to have a Class A license. (Do they still even call them that?) I had mine in the 70s but only drove commercially for a couple of years.
