Mikuni Sizing Identity

Hi everyone,

I am going to look at a Z today that has Triple Mikuni Carburetors. I want to make sure I can identify the sizing of the carburetors, whether they are 40mm, 44mm, or 50mm (doubtful). The car has a L28, so it will most likely be 44mm, but I am not 100% sure.

I understand there are stamps on the Butterfly throttle plates, does anyone have a picture of the stamped number? I understand 40mm would be stamped 165, 44mm would be stamped 175, and 50mm stamped 185.

Any pictures would be of great assistance!

I will check my 44's tomorrow. If necessary I can check the markings on my 50's but I would have take a trip to my storage facility. JLP

I read up a bit online, and a few sites said that the throttle plate that is marked with 165, 175 or 185 is stamped on the manifold side. Would that not make it non-visible from looking in the air cleaner side?

The throttle plates on my 44's do have 175 stamped on them and it is on the manifold side. Couldn't you just measure the diameter of the throttle body intake? JLP

40 mm carbs have wingnuts holding the cap on. At least that's what's doing the job on mine.

My Mikuni manuals do not show wing nuts on the caps. The application #s are Z40-550 and Z44-550. No 50mm application is listed. Mikuni boasts and 18% power gain for the L28.

The cap or cover over the jets, dead center of the carb.
