yeah, that's a bit more than I am willing to spend. I am not looking for something that will be necessarily "all original". I am looking for something I can drive now, track later so originality isnt of the utmost importance.

Thanks for the link...looks like a really nice car

a 240z with a L28 is a plus

I think so, too. I like mine, L28 running 3-screw SU carbs. Runs rich right now so once the brake work is done I'll meet up with a fellow forum member to tweek the carb tuning, but otherwise it's great fun to drive.

Oh, and I talked to the owner of that red car up in Whittier. He sent me a ton of pictures while I was shopping around, very honest. The car wasn't running back when I was looking, so he's definitely made progress. The original color was light green, it's been repainted. He's worth talking to, he seemed like a straight shooter.

a ways a way...might a be a better pickup http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/cto/1692223132.html
If it's not rusty, this one is a far better buy. Might have farther to go to get it auto-x ready, but a much better starting point, in my opinion. '73s are better daily drivers, too.
This one might be more legit to you guys:

I don't like automatics - at all. The owner doesn't even know what engine it has (V6, oh really?). Is that a fuzzy cover on the dash? I wonder what lays below that cover? Velor seats? I'm sure the rims looked better on the car they originally came from.

So far, the Whittier car is the most attractive.

I'm not so sure about that. Paints peeling off in door jam, what looks like bondo on the rear wheel lip....who knows what else is lurking. At least the first car he was looking at had the L28 he wants, plus the paint is still sticking to it! LOL
