I have a '73 240z that I turbocharged back in the 70s with a Crown turbo kit. The Crown kit specified using the front carb only. It took allot of creativity to get the flat top Hatachi carb rich enough. But it ran very well; very few cars could stay with it.

A few heads, blocks, and pistons later, It ended up with an O-ringed 280 block, 280ZX trubo head, mechanical cam conversion, Shrick cam, TRW forged pistons and cleavite bearings. It has also demolished 3 transmisions, a couple of stub axels, and hundreads of clutches. Currently, it has a Centerforce clutch and aluminum flywheel that has held up well.

The float failed about 15 years years ago. Replacements were obsolete. The car has been garaged since then.

The Crown kit is a draw through design. So since I have to look for a different carb, I was thinking about changing to a blow through set up so I can plumb in an inter cooler too.

Are their any 2 barrel or 4 barrel manifolds around that have good distribution for the early Z series?

Was the float special?

You have something with a serious "Cool factor" from back in the day, why not have Z Therapy rebuild your original carb and keep the vintage mod?

PS, have you got any pictures posted of the setup? We need a thread of all of the aftermarket turbo kits(and original instructions from back in the day)-I have one of the early efi turbo kits in storage-( http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22762&highlight=turbo+kit&page=2 ) see post 29 for a picture

The front and rear carb floats are different on the carbs that were OEM on this car. I can find the rear float but not the front.

its kind of moot. The Crown carb adaptor is a real cheesy spun aluminum thing. It clamps on to the turbo with a hose clamp.

I had a Datsun dealer in Pensacola Florida change one of the 2 dozen head gaskets that I have blown for me once and they bent the darn thing and eventually it cracked. (first and last time I trusted a dealer to do any work on my vehicles) It is too thin to Tig, so I epoxied it repeatidly. I was going to fab a new one, but never got around to it.

So original isn't an option.

And the motor is built for boucoup boost that I'd really like to experience. I'll have to dig through my hoard of automobile crap and find the box with all of my Z stuff. I think I kept the original Crown literature and instructions. I don't need them any more. So is there a keeper of documents on this forum that I can send them to if i find them?
