Jon, the BIG boy Posted May 2, 2000 Share #1 Posted May 2, 2000 I have a stock 72 non-California 240Z. The manual calls for the timing to be set at 5 degrees BTDC. Since this car is now exempt from CA emissions tests, all the emission crapola has been stripped off the engine.Someone told me that, when this is done to this engine, that I need to change the timing setting to 17 degrees BTDC.Can anyone confirm (or poo-poo) this?thx,Jon W.thebigboy@earthlink.net Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/360-ignition-timing/ Share on other sites
John Coffey Posted May 2, 2000 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2000 It you can get away with that much on the MTBE infested gas we have here in California, go for it. Remember, you want a total advance (mechanical and vacume) of 28 to 32 by 3,000 RPMs.Most of the folks I know run about 15 degress initial advance.----------------------------John Coffeyjohncof@veriomail.com Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/360-ignition-timing/#findComment-742 Share on other sites
