I know a bit about low as my street 240 sits just 5.75-inches (at front rocker and 6.10 at rear), the race car at just 5 and 5.75 respectively and the BSR/Newman 280ZXTT sits a mere 3 inches (with air in the tires).

The concept of just cutting and liking the look is one thing, being able to drive it and drive it fast is a whole different thing all together....

Hell, getting them on and off a trailer is a pain.

The 72 Pinto that I drove in High School only had about 3 - 4 inches of ground clearance, but not because I made it that way intentionally... (Old Fords sucked!) :stupid:

I once got stuck in the middle of an unplowed road, because the snow was 5 inches deep. :tapemouth

Kenshin7, in my opinion it's your car, express yourself, everything is fixable. You've probably gathered by now this may not be the forum to research, as ClassicZcars is dedicated to mostly stock, stock restoration, and/or stock-"ish" restomod's of "Z"cars. While it might seem as if we're bashing you, we are actually just grumpy old men who wake up with stiff sore backs from "been there, done that, got the t-shirt". As already stated HybridZ would be the place to start your research. There members have a much greater wealth of information in discussion, experimentation, and application of the technical aspects you're looking at in modding your "Z" car. I highly encourage you to have fun with your car, be it, better motor, suspension, aero-styling (please no bedazzling, mohawks, or pink shag carpeting LOL). Continue with the research, ask lots of questions, and remember fuction over form always, and keep us posted! However, if form should win out and your just throwing cash around remember who said this and slip me 5K on the backside to finish my car.

im not trying to destroy my car but i do want it lower. im thinking a 3'' drop is a possibility. my car barly gets on my trailer as it is so i figure what the hell. this will kinda give you the direction im wanting to go. i love the old school wide fenders wide wheels look. i think this car is practical.

That's not really a practical ride height. I've run my car about that low at autocrosses and track days, but I would then raise it back up about 3 inches from there to drive on the street. At that height in the video you will not be able to drive over a speedbump, and you'll have a very hard time getting in and out of driveways. I could not drive into my old driveway with the car any lower than I ran it on the street. Had to go in at an angle to avoid high centering (house was lower than the street level). That was with the car ~3" higher than what is in that video. For reference I'm using the height of the hub in comparison to the body line above the rockers. I had my hubs a bit above that line as well, my wheels and tires were 23" tall. Should be pretty close.

Freeze my vid at 8 sec in, compare to your vid at 2:17. Looks like he is using a slightly taller tire, maybe a 16 or 17 inch rim and has the car a little lower. End result is nearly the same, and not practical IME.

but you see, that is what these kind fellows are trying to tell you. A large drop IS in fact going to ruin your car. You will destroy the underbody, the vital suspension and engine parts will rub and scratch. Your ride quality will be absolute junk. You will make the car unable to deal with bumps and hiccups in the road, and it will be near uncontrollable with too large a drop.

Try to think about a 1 to 1.5" drop. That is very possible and still keep yours car current suspension geometry in tact. It will look lower and at the end of the day you will be able to still drive it and more importantly, WORK ON IT.

Being able to drive it up ramps and get a jack under you 38 year old car is not just handy but a necessity.

Too many young kids want the look without thinking about the consequences. We are all being kind and telling you to STOP. Lowering a car 3+ inches is just too much. I promise you, that you do not have the technical acumen to do this properly. Stay with tried and true matching sets of struts/springs. Look at tokiko/koni/eibach. Look at what others have used. At the end of the day function is more important than form.

I think its just a way to express yourself, through your car. I think ghost flames and wacky hood scoops are lame but it's not my car. I think everyone was quick bash, even on the OP.

I personally appreciate the stance of this car and massive negative camber the guy is running. It's "hella flush" as younger kids would call it. Would I personally do that to my car? No.
