Well...

My screen name is actually more than 10 years old. I have had a 240SX it was my first car in highschool, im getting all nostalgic having a "240" again!

I bought this car on a whim, my buddy and I were talking about how nice it would be to get a pre 75 (no smog required) car and fix it up. I always wanted an "eleanor mustang" but seeing as how even a shell for those things is big bucks, i decided to fall back on my roots of nissan. I saw this car:

and just fell in love! So I did some homework, looked around and picked this puppy up tonight. Its a 1973 serial number HLS30-133080

It has some rust in the "usual" spots, I actually want to teach myself to weld on it. I want to satisfy my itch to have an american V8 and put something nasty under the hood too. Right now, its all up in the air. But just wanted to say hi and show some pics! It has a MSA Type 3 kit on it, I love the way it looks!

Thats all folks!

Welcome to the site! Great pictures. I would agree, the first picture looks great. The other pictures look... not as great :) It really looks to be in pretty decent shape. Good luck with the work. Now the fun begins. You can turn the car into whatever you want it to be. Does the car drive? The good thing is you can enjoy the car as you fix it up. This site is a great source of help and information. Don't forget the search function at the top of the page. Its amazing what you can find. Keep us posted with pictures as you make progress.

No the guy i got it from didnt really seem to know his way around the engine. The clutch doesnt seem to work, the motor is from a 280 that he transplanted himself, barely idles. Brakes dont work. Im taking it all out. I will attack the rust first. Im debating on how exactly to attack it. Cut out the rusted parts and weld? (i dont know how to weld, but want to learn). Or sand it down and chemically treat the rust? use fiberglass? Much research is yet to be done.

If you're going to drop a V8 into it you should make sure you do whatever frame stiffening is required for the extra torque. I think these bodies are a bit flimsy after 35 years under stock conditions, and a bigger motor will exacerbate that condition.

If you are going to weld, you might as well beef things up while you're at it.

right, thats another thing i have to read about. at first glance, it seems that the frame rails (atleast the front ones in the engine bay) are rust free. I was thinking all that should be needed is:

- Good rails

- Roll bar welded in

- front and rear strut tower bars

- some sort of support for the diff

sound like enough? did i miss anything big?

Also, what diff is back there? Its a 73 240z manual. R180? That will have to be upgraded to the R200 right? is that a bolt on upgrade?
