sir_hammer Posted July 9, 2010 Share #1 Posted July 9, 2010 As I've read through posts about different H4 bulbs I have decided Hella would be most appropriate for where I live. I live in northwest Arkansas out in the country, so brights are important to me (not that I never drive into town--I am a college student). As I've searched online I noticed Hella sells different bulb types such as clear, colored, and mega white. My question is, what do you guys prefer? Are the "normal/original" Hella H4s the most typical? Thanks,Bryan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/36424-hella-h4-clear-colored-mega-white/ Share on other sites
Inf Posted July 9, 2010 Share #2 Posted July 9, 2010 Hoping you just get some "normal" ones. I personally can't stand the ricer trend of white/colored headlights. It doesn't make a significant (if at all) visibility improvement for them, and it is excessively blinding to other drivers. EScanlon Posted July 9, 2010 Share #3 Posted July 9, 2010 First check your wiring. The increase in amperage may be due to increased (and expected) current draw through 40 year old wiring. The original lamps on these cars were 55/45w and you can imagine that a 100/90w lamp may require maybe not twice as much current, but decidedly MORE than the original bulbs. The old wiring may simply NOT be up to it and you may have a literall melt-down.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/36424-hella-h4-clear-colored-mega-white/#findComment-324826 Share on other sites
sir_hammer Posted July 9, 2010 Author Share #4 Posted July 9, 2010 I'm not a huge fan of the ricer look either, having moved to Arkansas from the west.I'll be upgrading to Dave's headlight harness so the H4 bulbs shouldn't be too much for the car. I do plan on upgrading the wiring in the entire car eventually. Thanks for the input,Bryan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/36424-hella-h4-clear-colored-mega-white/#findComment-324855 Share on other sites
Powderkeg Posted July 9, 2010 Share #5 Posted July 9, 2010 Bryan,Might I suggest that you also get Dave's parking light harness upgrade too. After you've installed both the headlight harness and the parking light harness you will notice a big improvement in your lights. You will also notice a big improvement with just the headlight harness but the parking light harness also makes a drastic improvement.Regardless of the upgrade, see how you like the lights that you have now. You may find that you don't need to go with the higher grade bulbs after adding Dave's products.I have both the headlight harness and parking light upgrade in my 76 280Z and they made a drastic improvement in my stock lighting.Dave Ruiz Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/36424-hella-h4-clear-colored-mega-white/#findComment-324862 Share on other sites
