I happened to notice that the upper radiator support for my 5/72 is slightly different than on my 1969 production cars. The red car in the pictures below is my 72 and the areas where the hood support rod and the rod storage bracket are mounted are countersunk slightly. There is also a threaded hole near the radiator cap that isn't there on my early cars. I wonder what that hole is for?

Hi Mike,

That is interesting ,I do not know how the hole is used .

I see the hole on a 1973 Z432 ,the picture in my laptop.

Also I am curious about holes for the oil cooler,

I think every S30 has them, could you check your 1969 and 1972 car Mike?

Here is a link to Mr. Takeuchi' s blog about his 1970 Z432-R

you can see pictures of the oil cooler.

Hi Kats,

I checked and both the blue and red car have the two threaded holes in front for the oil cooler. It looks like the red car (72) also has a third smaller unthreaded hole. It seems I need to spend some time cleaning up the front of the radiators and supports on both my cars :).

I am also attaching the pictures from Mr. Takeuchi' s blog that you provided the link to for reference.

Two threded holes on the basement near the horns are for

the oil cooler.

If you install the cooler, you need to have extention brackets

for the horns to prevent interapting each other.

kats

Kats, I was wondering about the bottom holes. Are the lower holes used to mount the oil cooler on the top of the support or on the front (next to the holes used to mount the horns)? On both my cars it looks like there are three hold on the front of the support next to each horn and a couple of holes on the top of the support. None of these holes look like they are threaded. Are nuts needed to attach the bottom of the oil cooler?

I also noticed that my red 1972 has two threaded hole in the top of the left corner of the lower radiator support, but the blue car does not (see the last two pictures).

Here is a better view of the oil cooler mounting hardware. No nut is shown for the bottom so you would think a captured nut would have been used. Also a quantity of only two nuts are shown for the top mounting.

My 10/70 has the mystery weldnut on the top also.
