I have never owned a Datsun in my life! I have wanted a 240Z since I was 15 years old, now at 45 I have one! The car was owned by one of my buddies fathers before he passed away. The car was bought as a wholesale car by him at Hoyte Dodge where I used to work back in 2004. The car meant ALOT to Brett and for him to call me and only me to purchase the car means alot.

I replaced the water pump, plugs, oil and filter, and did a general clean up. Car need valve cover gasket replaced, a mount on the rear end that clunks when you change gears to swift, headlight switch, and brakes worked on. I have driven it around here and she rides great. I will be installing my 1200 watt amp, 12" sub, new head unit, and just detailing the hell out of her today. Car runs and drives great, no smoke, pings, knocks, ect.

Good luck the 72 is the best balance for a street car they corrected some drive shaft angles that reduced vibration in the car, and was really the last year before emissions really killed performance. The 73 wasn't bad, but the flattop SU carbs came on the latter 73's.

FYI it help to refer to the production month/year you can find this in the door jam, the Z tends to have a lot of midyear changes.

we're in the same boat nearly.... I'm 40 and just got a '72 240 after playing with them in high school...all my friends had one except me :) I plan on putting in my homemade 12" bazookie tube / amp...LOL...and will return to my highschool days of bumping the Beastie Boys for starters.... :)

mine is in worse shape but it should be a snortin road beast before I'm dead :)

I took my spoiler off because it delamned and has rust underneath....I'm not sure if I'm going to remount it so keep me in mind unless you're going new...

I like the rear flares and the fact that you don't have wider tires/bigger rims...I was hoping to do the same and just bought the flares last night on ebay!

I've got that poly or FG air dam coming from Z Source, air filter, I bought the smoke headlight covers, bought fender flares, three cases of primer grey, two gallons of paint stripper, wire wheel and polish pad for the rims....

you have my favorite rims....let me know if you get rid of them....

If the car is all original, why ruin it with a stroker or V8 conversion. There are so few original Z's left. It is your car and you can do what you want, but cars that are converted to V8's are never brought back to original and that means one less Z car to represent the brand. Why not build up the L24 in it?

I'm gonna take your post and run with it in a new thread....I'm prolly gonna put more into looks than muscle....and want input on what to do to my L24. cheers

Try to stay as true to original as possible. The car's value will appreciate much more if you keep it fairly stock and unmolested. Making a lot of modifications to the car will reduce its value if you plan to hold on to the car for a long time.

Just my two cents worh.

Value is but one consideration. The Z (S30) is an excellent styling exercise in it's own right but tastes change over time. Aside from the G-nose Z, the stock configuration has aero problems at speeds above most speed limits. The addition of a front air dam of some sort will settle the car down thus improving safety and driveability, hence increasing the FQ.

I agree completely with Zedyone's comment about retaining the L24. A Z just isn't a Z without an in-line six.

I have decided not to molest it. I will find me a Gremlin to V8. Car is just to original to mess with. I found an L24 on Craigslist that someone pulled for a v8 conversion that was running fine when pulled for dirt cheap.

These are cars built for the twisty roads. When you learn the car you will find how great they are in the turns. Get into a road course class and learn some technique, in the long run with the Z it will pay off greatly.

Beside you won't be the next Shelby trowing in a V8 in a Z, people have had 40 years to figure out how to make that work, it just wasn't built for that, but if you get a R32 motor in you might have one of the baddest Zs on the road.
