Hey Y'all. I scored a deal of a life time on a '76 280. I am trying to determine what to do. My Z is all original and all there and un molested. Why I jumped on the car is there is very very very little cancer which y'all know is a problem. I am going to see if I can wake up this Z that has been sitting in a shed for at least 6 years. I was told it was driven in!?....we will see. So It needs interior (but its all there) and needs paint (my specialty). So all in all if I can get it to run Should I keep her stock and restore it?.....OR Customize it to be what I want? I was told that if I make her a hybrid I have a useless money pit and I will lose any nissan fan interest. So what do you think I should do? Lastly Any suggestions on how to determine the Sell value of my Z in its various stages of improvements? I see some "perfect" Z's going for 12K !?! For Real!?!

Hello :)

I've seen slight variations of this question several times on different boards and I'm still a little surprised every time I see it. What would make you happy and who are you trying to please? If you're looking at the car as an investment you're making a mistake. If you got the car for next to nothing and do all the work your self you might make a small profit. At any rate my answer is: it's your car...do what you want to do with it based on what will bring you the most enjoyment.

Have some fun.

I agree with Mike. It's your car, do what you want. There are those who only deem original as being allowed and others who change just about everything. Then there are the rest who fall somewhere in between. I have modifided mine slightly to suit me and what I want. I have dumped a lot of money into mine with out the intention of seeing it as profit later should I sell. I doubt very much that I would ever sell because I waited 20 years to replace my first '73 240Z that I did sell when I was in college. My fiance knows this is my baby/toy and that it makes me happy. She's fine with that and encourages me to work on it and keep it. Couldn't ask for better! I suggest looking around at what other people have done to their cars and see what is possible and go from there. Most important though, have fun! This shouldn't really be looked at as a monetary investment, but rather as a pleasure investment. The car is an absolute blast to drive and have! Enjoy!!

If it were an early, unmolested 240Z, I might suggest that you make everything "bolt-on reversible. But as there are still plenty of 280's out there, go for it, do what makes you happy!

Also, I agree with espark, if you aren't keeping it "stock", don't think of it as a monetary investment. Have fun!
