OK guys, I tried the search function, but did not find a definitive answer.

Will the shifter from my 1972, 240Z 4-speed work in a 1977 280Z 5-speed? From what I read it sounds like it will fit.

I was planning to use a MSA short-shift kit, but found out today that they are back-ordered for 3+ months. If my 4-speed shifter won't fit, I may have to design & fabricate a custom part, but I really don't want to do that.

Yes it will fit. Check my pic gallery for pics of different shift levers. You might have to do a little grinding where the longer lever goes into the shift rod. The pics show just how little might need to be taken off.

**edit**

I don't see the pic in this gallery, but it is in my hybridz gallery.

Darrel, the pics you show look like around a 1/4" difference in length between the pivot point and the bottom of the rod selector. I'm currently rebuilding an '82 5 speed (which has the spring loaded plastic bushing in the shifter) and wondering if my '73 4 speed shifter will fit. Any thoughts?

Thanks.
