Advice Removing Exterior Trim, Wratherstripping Prior to Paint?

Any advice on removing exterior trim, weatherstripping, bumpers, emblems, to prepare for painting? I need to know correct tools, tips, etc so that I damage/ destroy as little as possible. 1983 280zx 2+2

While Wick Humble's book (How to restore your Datsun 240Z) may be of the prior model, much of the information contained therein will still apply to your car. If nothing else it will provide you with a basis for asking more specific questions that will hopefully give results.

Your question, as it stands is more along the lines of "I'm going camping in Yellowstone Park, what should I take?" There will be tons of questions before any will offer any answers.

If you have a factory service manual for your ZX, it should have information on removal/installation of the trim, emblems, bumpers, etc... Items like the bumpers will be bolted on. In general, embems & trim can be tricky because you need to determine how they are attached. Could be adhesive, retainer pins, screws or nuts. A good set of plastic pry tools is handy for popping off emblems & trim that are attached with adhesive or retainer pins. Be sure to double check for hidden screws or nuts so you don't accidently break something...

Ok, completely understand. When someone starts in on a new hobby (or job, etc.), we don't know how much we don't know! I'll pick up the book referenced and read, then as I plan the removal, replacement, etc., I'll ask more specific questions. Thanks for your patience!
