1971 East African Safari Rally

Recommended Posts

We are having trouble contacting companys, concerning copying their logos and decals. We want to be very careful not to infringe on anyones copyright.

Has anyone done replica cars without worrying about this aspect, or is it very risky. For example the Shell logo, or Seiko.

Thanks, Brian.

I suspect you would only encounter problems if you sent them an invoice for advertising!

Could be worth a try, though....

The worst scenario is that they may ask you to remove them, highly unlikely.

Well in that case i got some stickers to make too! What happend to the head light buckets on the number 11 and number 1 car? Where they took off for storage or what???

I have some too,

I was surprised the under floor pan was not damaged very much than I expected.Looks like nothing has changed from our 240Z except the exhaust system!!

And some from Japanese car magazine, note before the rally, the additional lamps on the bonnet have a clear cover.

Left rear fender, the SEIKO sticker.above the SEIKO, there is no KS (Kanto seiki: for the steering lock & key /Tach and Speedo e.t.c. ) sticker.I think this KS sticker was added after the car shipped back to Japan.Nissan displayed this car at the Tokyo motor show 1971, so Kanto Seiki wanted to be advertized at the show.

Also support cars, the far left is 240Z , this might be as a donor for the race cars.

Hi guys, here are some pictures of a recent Club display. We had over 30 cars later in the morning. My car is number 11.

Obviously the stickers are not 100% but we managed to convey the idea.

We had a small african scene as well with shield, spears etc, and the Kenyan flag. We had a blast doing this.

My thanks to all who helped with pictures of the origional cars etc.

Brian.

Very cool! Maybe you could put the stickers on very thin magnet material and make them removable?

I have an original East African Safari Rally poster from a Nissan Dealer that's being framed now along with some other Datsun posters. It's my favorite vintage poster. I can't wait to get it back and display it.

Yes Mike. The magnet idea is good. We didn't get all of the stickers as we were eating into Club funds a bit too much. I'm very envious of your rally poster.

The idea of the rally theme proved to be quite popular with the public, especially with our camp fire and warthog skin etc. LOL

We met up with a couple who spent most of the last 30 years in Kenya, but now live in NZ. They were most interesting to talk to, as they have vivid memories of the Nissan Team cars and seeing the 240Zs that won. They are in their 60s now and were delighted when we showed them our car number 11 dressed up with numbers-logos etc. Also some pictures we had enlarged.

Brought back to them many memories.
