ignition wires to a 71 240z

Recommended Posts

The wiring at the steering column is very straightforward... IF the connectors are still attached to the wires.

Maybe I'm reading more into this than is there, but if you're needing a pictorial on the wiring in that area, my thoughts are that the wires have either been cut, or somehow you've lost all the connections/connectors.

It may be simpler for YOU to post a picture of the wiring as YOU have it, and let us take a crack at helping you than your trying to figure out the wiring by looking at pictures that may not show the detail you will need.

you are right i have connected all dash wiring and there is nothing left to connect to the ignition can remember if there was aseperate wire that is why i am asking for someone to show me a pic of the ignition wiring .thanks carl h

OK, that's tougher. First, I'd need to pull the column cover of, then try to get my honking big camera back in there to try to take a meaningful picture.

But this is really pretty simple, as the ignition switch/lock only has one large connector (5 pin), and two small wires (generally red w/blue trace) for the key-in-the-ignition squealer. There's really nothing else to it, and not much that you can mess up.

This is from the 73 FSM. Chances are that your wire colors are the same.

Expect a six wire plug with five wires and the following colors:

Black with Yellow stripe

Black with White stripe

White with Red stripe

Blue with Red stripe

Green with White stripe

There should be two other wires, one with a male spade and another with a female spade. One of those wires is red.

Download a copy of the FSM and look at the Instrument Harness page in section BE for details on the plug.
