Window roller guide problem and headlight problem

In the never ending process of 9070 I am putting the side windows back in and they work great, go up and down really nice. Then I put the roller in on the passenger side and the window is pushed in too far. It does go into the channel at the top but the roller seems to push too hard.

I am afraid to bend it, and more afraid to remove it to bend it. Any suggestions?

Also the headlights do not come one, I can ground the relay on turn signal stalk (high low) and get the lights but they do not come on with the switch. It has been almost 20 year since they have been tried. I have not tried to track it down yet other than checking fuses. Is there anything simple and quick that comes to mind may help me. I tried another switch but that one did not even turn on the running lights.

See if you can spray some WD-40 inside the switch, and then exercise the switch quite a bit, turning it on, off, on, off. That might work. Zs-Ondabrain also rebuilds these switches. Or it might not be the switch....

Eventually you should upgrade to headlight relays, BTW. Those switches take a beating.

Basically in your car, the headlight switch completes the ground for the headlights. As Sarah said, that causes a lot of stress on the switch contacts. Please note that there is not a relay in the stock configuration. Your test results indicate that the switch in your car isn't working.

While WD-40 or contact cleaner might remove some of the build up on the contact, it may require disassembly and light sanding with emory paper to remove enough debris to ensure good contacts on the switch.

I have the headlights on relays in the front already thanks to this forum.

I have some CRC contact cleaner and will hose it down and work it for a while.

Any suggestions on the window roller? Richard.

Are you suspecting something may have bent the roller carrier?

Can you check its shape against the one on the other side ?Sounds as though something has been dropped on it or something. If its bent, straighten it.

Does the stainless door top frame fit the car nicely, its not out of shape or something? Another thought.The window guides may be worn out.

I know its a bit freeky when you put the roller in as to how firmly it pushes on the glass. You may not have a problem at all. If the window goes up and down you should be fine

If the window rolls down too far, and goes into the channel, under the rubber squeegy area?? You may need a new rubber stopper at the bottom of the door.

Look at the bottom inside of the door, there should be a metal lip down there that holds a 3/4" x 1.5" block of rubber. That rubber block stops the window from going down too far. They like to fall off due to a faulty, sometimes rusty clip that holds it to the metal plate on the bottom of the door.

As for the switch, just use an ohms meter on the contacts of the larger wires, on top of the combo switch. The wires are either Black and red or white/red and red. I think.

The contacts are cleanable if you can carefully dissasemble the switch and put is back together. DO NOT USE a bunch of grease where the plastic bullet peice slides on the contact. use a VERY small amount of di-electric grease only where is make contact with the bullet.

If you bend the tabs to open the switch up, only bend them slightly, just enough to remove the switch plate from the metal body. I say this because they will break if moved too much.

I do not have the outer squeegy on yet so I do not know if that will affect anything or not, they new and I know if I put them on without the roller working they will be bent to get them off. I have not rolled the windows all the way down yet but they stay in the track and the front and go up nicely.

I will work on the contacts on the switch when the temps warm up some. Thanks for all the tips, Richard.

Little Off Topic but not much: Where exactly the window rollers should be? Does some1 have picture about that? I've tried to figure it out but due to some "lost in translation" problems i havent been able to solve this problem.

They clip on about halfway along the top of the door panel and are hidden by the squeege stainless strip, and hang down inside the door to roll against the outside of the glass. They are a small bracket with a rubber roller at the bottom.

Sorry, mine are inside the doors so not possible to take pictures for you. As

I have the right on the right, so that is not an issue, I think it may be bent. I will get a set of needle nose in there and see what that does. Thanks for all the help, Richard.

Yea i know how they look like, just looking the precise spot for them. SO they attach on the outer side, not inner? :stupid:
