My 10K Original Mile 240z for Sale Discussion

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

It's been a while since I've have posted here, but I’m planning on selling my 240z which has an interesting yet odd history and thought I would discuss it before posting it up in the classifieds.

I have a 1972 240z white on black, 4spd which I have concluded that has 10K

original miles I would like to part with. The catch is it has a salvage title and was involved in an accident back in the early 70's when the car was new. I bought it from an elderly woman who had advertized it on craigslist in Arizona mentioning that it had 10K miles. After phone conversations and some basic not so good pics I planned the trip to check it out. The car was in a shed in the back yard and in pretty decent shape but dirty and in non running condition. The dash is 99.9% crack free with only one 1/4" crack in the middle of the dash closest to the window. Original stereo, original speaker, original antenna all in working condition, original hub caps, All emblems in near new condition, all original braided hoses under the hood including the radiator, smog pump still connected and working, etc... I know this does not confirm it to be a 10K mile Z but upon looking further with other small details, in my opinion I believe it is. Some of the things on the car just look to clean for it to have 100K.

The old lady's husband had crashed the car when it had 10K miles and repaired it and put it back in the shed and never drove it. He had passed away in the past few years so she decided to sell the car.

I purchased it about 2 years ago and basically got it running with new spark plugs, fuel pump, spark plug wires, cap & rotor, battery, etc... I'm not exactly sure what it's worth but I think for someone who does not care for title status, and wants to just have a very clean looking and great running Z that this would be an amazing find.

It has ZERO rust and the motor/trans is excellent.

Please see the pics attached and help me determine a fair price for a great Z with an odd history.

What are the details of the crash damage and repair? It looks good, but looks can be deceiving ? A salvage title generally would indicate that it had heavy crash damage that would have cost more to fix than the car was worth, and on a newish car that would be a lot of damage

Unless you have some documentation to prove the 10K mile claim, its just a nice clean 1972 240Z with a salvage title. The new owner might not care about the salvage title but his/her insurance company would. My guess is that its a $7K to $9K car depending on how obvious the repairs are.

EDIT: I upped my estimate a bit.

Thanks for helping out. From what I can tell the car was hit on the driver side betweeen fender and door. The repairs look fairly decent and I have no proof the car has 10K original miles...except for some service docs.

I currently have the car fully insured and they are aware of the title status and had no issues when obtaining it.

My goal was to get between 7-10K just because of the mileage and it looks to be in better shape than most Z's I see on the road.

WOW!!! Its nice to see a car in that kind of shape. The engine picture looks great. Good luck on it. I would love to buy a 240z....but I am still dealing with getting my 280Z running normally. And my wife would have to stomp me, if I bought another one right now. he he

Thanks Argniest....

Psdenno...No, the car is now registed and fully insured in California, just have the copper plates for pics...looks nice. I know it would look much better with the front bumper trims, but I really would like to just sell it for now.

Of all the Z's I have ever had, this one is shockingly fast and responsive. Transmission is perfection

+1

Beautiful car. Just wondering if you have any pictures of the inner area (metal) behind the front drivers side strut, right across from where the air filter assembly would be installed. It looks like its a little buckled or discolored. Not criticizing but just curious. Best of luck with the sale.

Thanks Roy...it's not damaged but the paint was sanded off for some reason. I had an aerosol made to match engine bay color to respray over the exposed metal on the tower but here is a pic of what it looked like before.

Sorry best pic I have

I remember that car from when it was listed on zcars.com before you bought it. Like you said the original pics didn't show a lot of detail about the condition of the car. I think the salvage title also scared some people away when it was listed by the original owner and will probably affect the value some now. $7k to $10k is probably reasonable depending on how well the repairs were done. Wasn't it originally listed by the original owner for something like $5k to $7K?

According to zhome.com, 904 White '72 240Zs only came with red interiors. Perhaps there is more to the salvage title than just the small accident. It could have gone into a body of water and the interior was changed out to black.
