My 10K Original Mile 240z for Sale Discussion

Mike B I almost agree with you I see enough to tell me it wasn't repaired right, the fender needs to come off at a shop to see what it would cost to repair it right, but more important how untrue the car is from measurements. It would make a great parts car or a great project car, but I would not drive that car at highway speed in its current state.

Have you had the body check for true, because that is a bold statement. Right now someone can buy the car, do what you just said have the car go out of control, and sue you.

Or you might try it and be like an ex-friend of mine who is having a disk removed from lousing control of a car with a crooked frame. I know you want to sell the car lets just make sure we play it safe. Honestly how fast have you had the car did it track strait any vibrations at that speed?

I don't think that would hold up in court. These cars are 40+ years old. Previous owners don't even know the real history anymore. Besides, he manned up and stated up front that the car has been totaled and repaired. I think he is entitled to the opinion in his prior post..even though it sounds like a statement, I think it's obvious that it's an opinion. Of course anyone can sue anyone for anything nowadays..or at least they think they can.

I've put 300 miles on the car and it's hasn't hurt me. Buying any 240z and not having it inspected could result in what you stated. I'll continue to be honest with you guys, I'm asking 10K for it just like the original owner had the car listed for. At that time the car would not start, was sitting on 2 flats. I have since then, flushed fluids inluding clutch, brakes, oil, radiator. Changed front pads..kept the ones originally on the car in a box, battery, spark plugs, plug wires, cap & rotor and a mechanical fuel pump. Carpeting was missing so bought a new set from motorsport.

I've put money into getting it running and drivable, paid all registration costs and fee's and still listing it for the price it was originally listed for with the option of or best offer

The motor and transmission are very strong...I said it before it's one of the most responsive 240z's I have ever driven...it's surprising.

Just based on my own experiences, in this situation it's likely I'd value the car in the price range of cars in need of body work, followed by a respray, and discount the otherwise original components. Had the car been 10K miles with salvage title because of a theft and subsequent recovery by the insurance company, but otherwise totally unmolested, I'd probably be more willing to overlook the title issue in lieu of the car's otherwise original condition. In this case, it appears to my eye to have not been repaired to specification (hood fit appears off, but the picture could be misleading). Because bodywork may have to be involved to return the car to bone stock, along with the salvage title, I'd probably end up taking a pass altogether.

All that said, there's a buyer for every car, and it's worth what someone will pay - I hope you get your asking price! I'm pretty picky, and I probably don't represent the norm when it comes to prospective buyers.

Just an armchair-quarterback's opinion, with no skin in the game.

40 minutes left at ebay! Look at all the attention this "salvage" got! One more data point to show that the spread between "all original clean survivor Z" versus "salvaged, or shade tree restored Z" isn't as great as we would like to believe. I think it's because MOST Z's are still being traded/sold to be driven, regardless of their prowess.

It sold for $8,101. That tells me that the person that bought it doesn't follow the Z sites like this one or Zcar.com, where he also had the car listed. On Feb 3, he dropped the asking price on the Zcar.com ad to $6,999 OBO, so the buyer could have gotten a better deal by dealing directly with the seller before it was listed on ebay.

Based on the pictures he posted, I still think it could be a 10k mile car, but it was definitely hit hard in the front. Both the inner fenders and parts of the firewall are buckled, which you can tell by the flaked off paint. It looks like both of the fenders, valance, and headlight buckets were replaced and the back sides of the panels left in the original grey primer/paint that replacement parts came with. The frame rails look like they have been straightened. It may still be a good driver if the alignment is ok, but to make it factory correct again would be a lot of work and costly. Hopefully the buyer is knowledgeable enough to understand what he bought and is ok with what it is.

I agree, I think someone will not be happy with the purchase when they get a good look at it. The repairs could have been done better on the car. Normally pictures hide most things, and we found a lot of things.

Now if the car was close to me I would have taken a look, and paid to have the car's body checked out. I saw a lot of great parts, it the car was to twisted to restore more than likely what he was asking I could part it out for my project. I think the car might be twisted enough not to restore to original but to make a custom car, that way it would look good with the sub-framing being reinforced in case of structural cracking, and use the parts to help restore my current Z.
