Using Lead or body filler on quarter panel seam

Recommended Posts

I am replacing my quarter panel on my 240z and I was wondering when I put the new one in should I put lead/solder back in where it meets the roof or should I use body filler. Some people say that today's fillers are much better than the fillers back in the day so please give me your thoughts. What are some good fillers.

Thanks

The use of lead as a filler is in this day and age unnecessary and dangerous.

Providing there is a strong metal to metal weld at the seam, the use of Hi Tech Body Filler is the desirable solution.

Just make sure the surrounding surfaces are correctly prepared for the 2 part filler and it will do the job admirably.

It is what it was designed for:beer:

today's body filler (if used properly) does not and should not shrink nor crack. so i'd go with body filler. in particular, Evercoats products quantum if you're willing to shell out the cash, if not the rage line works just as good

They have non-lead metal fillers that they now use and leading has come back. All fillers will eventually crack, but the lead and lead substitutes will last longer, and the paint does not fade differently than the car. If you want to try it they have kits at Eastwood Co.
