I wonder why they don't start with the 1970 model year? I would have thought 1970-1972.

Hey, don't be hating on the '73's! If you swap out the carbs and bumpers, you get everything you get from a 71/72, PLUS the benefit of the lighted heater control panel. So, other than a low VIN car, the '73 should be the most sought after! ;-)

And yes, I have been offered close to that amount Hemmings put out for the article for my Z. I am guessing they are putting out that value based on an average of what we all have are declared value policies insured for. :)

The collector car market is still booming. There is room for more cars to be welcomed in and the 70 to 73 Z will make in. We need to continue to promote the car and set the prices, most of all we must push the cheapscapes out. The thing I hear all the time about Z guys is that they don t want to spend any money on their cars...they don t want to pay for quality parts.

Well it takes all kinds. What I hope is that the true collector status never pushes the Z into a 'flip this car' mode we see on barrett Jackson. I would rather the cars be driven and loved. The Z is one of those cars that is as fun today as it was 40 years ago. The dynamics are still current and the car still handles very well. I hope the fine folks I have got to know here keep the dream alive and running.

Must be an East Coast thing. Here out West, I can't see that happening for even really excellent examples. No way I'd expect to get $20k for mine now, maybe $15-18k.

In agreement with what Arne said. I would however like a bag of what the folks at CNN are smoking though. I did send this along to Steve to review as he gets the white car ready to sell.

Some do ........some don't. No one is going to spend $30,000.00 on a Z that needs $30,000.00 to bring it up to snuff! The cars at Barrett Jackson are impeccable. Put your car up on a lift and look at all the discolored nuts and bolts, faded paint and under-coating, grease etc. and etc. and imagine it going over the under-carrage mirrors at B-J. If you want to get $30,000.00 for your Z, you probably need to put $30,000.00 into it! For a tinker toy, fun to drive...fun to work on car, you just can't beat 'em. If you want to make a ton of money on 'em.....forget it. And I'll bet that 90% of the cars that sell for big bucks at B-J are big money losers to their owners......but they had a friggin ball during the restoration process! All IMO Guy
