Great day for a drive/pick and pull score

Recommended Posts

Finally got to drive my 280 around for the first time since painting it. Wow almost forgot how fun it is. Any My girlfriend convinced me to head up to the pick and pull in Lynnwood. We found one 71 240 and a 77 280 and scored most of the parts to finish off the interior of my 78. Also grabbed one door handle from the 240 (should have snagged both) the 240 still had some good parts including a red interior. Both have good hatches.

Door Handles??? Grab the Intake and SU's - if the junk yard will sell them cheap enough. I'd also be there saving every nut, bolt, and screw that could be re-plated. What head is on the engine? If it's a 72 E88 that would be worth saving as well. Always good to have a spare engine bay wiring harness as well. Lots of good stuff still on that car.

If you haven't done this already, contact Dave Irwin (Zs-ondabrain) and have him make you a headlight harness upgrade for your 280Z. He doesn't heavily advertise the 280Z upgrades but he did mine and they work great.

You'll need to get about 6 inches of original wiring and the plugs from the donor 280Z. Ask Dave for details.

If those hood vents are still intact get them along with the aluminum brake drums.

Have fun!

Ya, She's great. She actually enjoys going there, helped me pull a lot of the parts and she dropped the gas tank, after some looking over I left it (had a strange plastic plug in the bottom that I am sure would not hold gas). The SU's where there but lots of parts were missing and I have efi not carbs. Anyhow I mostly just wanted parts to finish my car and got most, I was hopping that others might find parts for there's before they are crushed. The 240 was an automatic, it still had the center console and heater vent/radio panel and some other interior parts, both had engines and the 280 had the transmission (might be a 5 speed).

I might be needing a lot of help from Dave in the near future (need my tax return and catch up on finances but I would like to throw some business his way since he helped me out of a jam). There was one hood vent there but it had broken studs and mine are in good shape actually newly repainted.

Anyhow my Z is running great and I am loving life.:D

The salvage yard drilled the tank out to drain(required by their rules). If the inside of the tank is rust free, grab it.

If the 5 spd still had the shift lever get it. It may have the shorter pivot point that work better with a late 5 spd.

Darrel, Good to know about the tank. My Z is a 78 the one a the yard was a 77, not shure if they are interchangable. The shifter was gone. Anyhow my car shifts fine after replacing the bushings and fluid. but the gas tank is making me think about a return trip. :ermm: guess I would need to weld the hole shut :pirate: I have no experience tinning gas tanks.
