Picked up a 74 260Z 2+2 a couple weeks ago here in SoCal. I have owned a 78 280Z and a 90 300ZX, but this is my first 2+2. The car was in the same family for 36 years and I'm hoping to enjoy the car for many years, too.

The car has an L28 and carbs from a 240. Runs pretty well although I can practically watch the gas gauge go down. Lights weren't working, but it just took cleaning the contacts in the switch. Still not sure about the dash lights. I also joined HybridZ and have been doing some research there. The main issue I see coming is overheating. The temp gauge climbed quite a bit in stop and go. I'll have to figure something out before the summer heat comes.

I went to the swap meet in Eagle Rock, CA this morning and scored a couple interior pieces. I am looking forward to Datsun gatherings in SoCal. Hope to see some of you there. I'll be in the blue 260 2+2.

Cool that will be a fun car. On the over heating flush out the system real good. Don't forget the plug on the engine clean it out till nothing but clear water will come out. You might want to get the radiator boiled out. Also check the water pump make sure is moves well.

Thanks for the reply and the tips. It gets really hot here - 90++, so I have been thinking about some options: a new radiator, an electric pusher fan, and/or adding vents to the hood.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm in Grand Terrace. If you hear of any Datsun gatherings in the area, please let me know.

SBlake, Any plans for your next Z?

So I'm right up the hill from you. I've looked at a few Z's but I haven't found one yet. I almost bought a 2000 Roadster last Summer but the lack of papework scared me.

Now it was a 240z. I drove it in 110+ in southern Arizona in stop and go traffic with the factory 2 core radiator, not the 3 core like yours should have with no problems. The factory system will keep it cool enough in good working order. One thing you might want to check and see is if you have the splash pan they help with air flow and cooling. If you still have problems look at getting a fan shroud.

The only car I ever drove that my dad or owned was my dad's 84 Corvette which would over heat new in heavy traffic.
