AZ-240z Posted March 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2011 I recently drained my tank and installed a new fuel sending unit. Thought I could get a new drain plug and washer from Nissan but they have been NA for some time. I do need a new washer, drain plug stays wet, (aren't they crush washers similar to the oil plug drain washer?) and thought someone might know of a source or something that would do the job.ThanksDan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38763-gas-tank-drain-plug-crush-washer/ Share on other sites
Darrel Posted March 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 2, 2011 If you still have the old washer, you can renew it. hit it with a torch and let it cool down. grantf Posted March 3, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 3, 2011 Is the washer copper? You mean annealing? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38763-gas-tank-drain-plug-crush-washer/#findComment-348031 Share on other sites
esmit208 Posted March 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 3, 2011 You should be able to get the plug and washer from CARQUEST. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38763-gas-tank-drain-plug-crush-washer/#findComment-348038 Share on other sites

ajmcforester Posted March 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 3, 2011 My Ace hardware has crush washers and we were able to match it up. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38763-gas-tank-drain-plug-crush-washer/#findComment-348079 Share on other sites
AZ-240z Posted March 3, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks for all of your responses. Yea, I did go to Ace hardware and they had a selection of oil drain plug washers but didn't see any crush washers. I'll pull the tank drain plug today, take it to Ace and see what will work. I'm afraid I sometimes get hung up on original or stock when it really is not necessary.Dan Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38763-gas-tank-drain-plug-crush-washer/#findComment-348102 Share on other sites
Darrell 240Z Posted April 13, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 13, 2011 I got a copper washer from the local Parts Plus store. Take your old one along and they can match it. 240ZX Posted April 14, 2011 Share #11 Posted April 14, 2011 Just a quick technical note on annealing copper.....heat till cherry red then quench in water (not air cooling).
