Hi, I'm Phil I'm in the UK, I've visited the US a couple of times and I wanted to build a series one 240z so I bought HLS30-18912 Build Date 01/71 which came from a Scrap yard (junk yard) in Arizona and I will rebuild it whatever it takes!

The engine and gearbox/transmition was missing as were the doors, the wings/fenders were knackerd as was everything else! The shell however was very good with perfect inner wings which is impossible to get in the UK, I have nearly completed all of the work on the shell and have bought nice rust free Californian doors and panels so it will be ready for paint this summer. The car although prepainted white was originally 502 Ivory with blue interior, I have Black interior for the car already but can't decide weather to paint it the original colour or change it, I also like orange but when I ordered 918 orange it looks alot browner than I thought could anyone show me a picture of a 502 Ivory car and a 918 orange or even suggest something else? I feel obliged to use period datsun colours and I have spent £5000/$8000 on the shell alone so I want to make sure I get it right!!!

Also I have other uk 240z's for donor parts so I will fit a 5 speed transmition but I wanted the original 4 speed wooden shift knob, what should it look like? I've seen different ones.

I think most any color of that era is attractive on these cars. The non-black interiors are more rare and more difficult to find, but adds "character" to the car. It all boils down to how YOU want the car to look, not what someone else might think.

Good luck with your quest!

502 Ivory was not the original color, as that was not offered on US 240Z. As a Series 1 with blue interior, it had to have been 904 Kilimanjaro white (or 903 Universal blue, which seems unlikely).

There's been a couple of threads on 918 variations, with some later mixes looking a bit brownish. Try searching the posts of user a7dz, as he went through that on his original 918 car.

For early cars, I'm very fond of 919 (yellow), 918, 903 (blue) or the 905 (red) of my car. But your blue interior is only good with white or blue.

More info on color choices can be found at http://zhome.com/History/colors.html

Thanks Arne, I've got that on my colour chart, like the name too! you don't know of a car I could see a picture of in that colour do you? Unfortunatly there was nothing much left of the blue interior and I have black one like new, I will get some 904 mixed up and try it. Thanks for the link!

I like that 112!

Unless you are doing a historic restoration why not make this 240Z yours? If you can do all paint everywhere go for your wildest dreams. Everyone has seen the historic renovation over & over. Boring. Do it with a flair all your own or be a lemur.
