StephenJ Posted March 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 14, 2011 Does anyone have experience with the carpet kits from the Datsun Store / z Specialties? http://www.datsunstore.comThey have a 13 piece sectional carpet that I am thinking about buying. Also, while replacing the carpet, thought I would add a new audio system. (Alpine deck, Boston Accutics Amp, Infinity 3-way 6x9s) I noticed that MSA has a 6x9 speaker panel that replaces the tail light panel. Has anyone seen these panels? If so, do they work well? Do they look good? Are they fair quality? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38884-carpet-kit-and-speaker-panel/ Share on other sites
joker72z Posted March 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 14, 2011 While I am not entirely familiar with the carpet kit from Z Specialties, I did order the carpet kit from MSA and it was excellent. I also installed the speaker panel on my 72 and it fit like a glove. perfect solution for not cutting holes in the interior and the sound was remarkably decent.Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38884-carpet-kit-and-speaker-panel/#findComment-349157 Share on other sites
StephenJ Posted March 14, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted March 14, 2011 Thanks Chris. Does the box span the whole width of the back? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38884-carpet-kit-and-speaker-panel/#findComment-349160 Share on other sites

ConchZ Posted March 14, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 14, 2011 The speaker panel fits across the entire back, and nearly looks stock. I really like mine. Sounds pretty good, though the car is so noisy, its hard to tell... Pop's Z Posted March 14, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 14, 2011 You can contact Oliver at www.zspecialties.com. +1 on dealing with him. I also have one of the speaker boxes. I have taken the fabric covering off and the sound insulation and the materials and construction are first rateCheers, Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/38884-carpet-kit-and-speaker-panel/#findComment-349211 Share on other sites

ZCurves Posted March 14, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 14, 2011 I used the molded MSA kit. I found it to be very complete and of nice quality. The kit provides enough overlap so that you can trim it in for a tight, custom fit. The Rear Deck carpet is very plush and has an excellent fit with serged edges. mgood Posted March 14, 2011 Share #9 Posted March 14, 2011 Here is a picture of the speaker enclosure in my 280Z. I have since covered it in black vinyl like the seats. I hooked it to a simple AM/FM CD play in the glove box. I kept the original radio because it worked great and is hooked to the original speaker. Check out my garage - the MSA rear speakerbox is fantastic as well as the kick panel speaker pods......both very easy installs with a great look once you are finished.
