wojie260z Posted May 1, 2011 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2011 I recently bought and restored a wooden steering wheel from a 240Z to install in my 260Z. I don't have the horn pad for the 240 wheel, and I would like to figure out how to make the later model horn pad fit. The 260 and 280 pads, though differing in appearance, are interchangeable. Unfortuanately, the same is not true for swapping between those models and the 240s. Any ideas? Has anyone ever seen an adapter that allows the later horn pads to be used on the 240 steering wheels? Thanks in advance!!-Rob Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39436-fitting-a-260280-horn-pad-onto-a-240-steering-wheel/ Share on other sites
SteveJ Posted May 1, 2011 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2011 If you shop around a little bit, you'll find the 240Z horn pad is not that expensive. Powderkeg Posted May 1, 2011 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2011 (edited) Rob,I think someone did this exact conversion on Hybrid-Z.I copied the procedure but haven't done it.You might search for : Mounting a 280Z Horn Pad to a Wood 240Z Steering Wheel at Hybrid Z < I think there were photos. Here's the write-up: Parts needed: 240Z Steering Wheel with ring. 280Z horn pad.Procedure:Use the mount that holds the pad to the 280Z (the one with 3 screws) and re-drill it to screws on top of the 240Z wheel. Mount with its 3 screws (the ones that go into the plastic).Pull the horn wire through.I haven't done this so, unfortunately, I can't tell you from experience but the original article had photos.Dave Ruiz Edited May 1, 2011 by Powderkeg Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39436-fitting-a-260280-horn-pad-onto-a-240-steering-wheel/#findComment-354581 Share on other sites
