madkaw Posted July 9, 2013 Share #182 Posted July 9, 2013 Is that measured flush? What HG are going to run?Installed the .040 over ITM pistons. Torqued the main and connecting rod caps. Looking good. BTW Madkaw...the pistons are flush with deck. Diseazd Posted July 9, 2013 Author Share #183 Posted July 9, 2013 Yes......flush. I'm using a stock P79 Nissan head gasket. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39741-new-engine/?page=16#findComment-427240 Share on other sites
madkaw Posted July 9, 2013 Share #184 Posted July 9, 2013 okay, just curious where this combo left you with the ITM pistons. So 1mm HG? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39741-new-engine/?page=16#findComment-427245 Share on other sites
Diseazd Posted July 9, 2013 Author Share #185 Posted July 9, 2013 Whatever the stock gasket is.....I believe it's like .055 inches. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39741-new-engine/?page=16#findComment-427255 Share on other sites
73str86 Posted July 12, 2013 Share #186 Posted July 12, 2013 My L29 engine builder had to mill the 0.030 over pistons a little off the top for his own peace of mind I believe. Otherwise he told me I needed a 2-3mm head gasket. I'd have to ask him exactly why. How often do builders keep pistons flush? madkaw Posted July 12, 2013 Share #187 Posted July 12, 2013 It's not about keeping the pistons flush- it's about setting up proper head to piston clearance based on the head gasket used. Thru research I have read that the best set up is .022-.027 clearance , but that might be too tight for some comfort levels. It's all about ideal parameters to fight detonation.I'm running about .027Most stock Nissan L motors have a pistons above the block from .014- .019 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/39741-new-engine/?page=16#findComment-427464 Share on other sites
Diseazd Posted September 27, 2013 Author Share #188 Posted September 27, 2013 Went to work on the Z Doctor P79 head today. I geometried all the wipe patterns for the Isky Stage III cam and valve springs. All rockers centered out with .160 lash pads except 2 which were .150's. I use an old egg carton to keep everything in order. Hope to start reassembly soon.
