EricB Posted September 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2011 Hi allLast month I bought a pair of new chrome door moldings from "Reddat" on eBay. Yesterday afternoon I had a bit of free time so I thought I'd install them on my June 1973 240z...Well I came across an odd issueThe moldings he sent me are dead straight when viewed from the side of the carThe moldings that are on my car and which I believe to be original have a slight curve to the back half of them. They slightly curve up to meet the quarter glass.I pulled mine off and noted that the top of my door skin has the same slight curve to it.Am I seeing things? The seller Reddat is telling me that the only difference in the door chrome moldings for the different year 240z's is whether they have the rubber or metal end plug...Any advice from you all?Thanks-e Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/40735-chrome-door-moulding-glass-squeegee-issue/ Share on other sites
EScanlon Posted September 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2011 Mount the new ones starting at the front, as you press down on the clips as you move towards the back, the piece will adjust to the contours of the top of the door.E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/40735-chrome-door-moulding-glass-squeegee-issue/#findComment-366013 Share on other sites

EScanlon Posted September 11, 2011 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2011 Not really "bend", as you push it down, the bend is so shallow that the clip will hold it in place to the contour.E Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/40735-chrome-door-moulding-glass-squeegee-issue/#findComment-366067 Share on other sites
jfa.series1 Posted September 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted September 11, 2011 Here is a tip to countour metal to a soft curve: put on some cotton or fabric gloves. As Enrique said - start at the front. Work the trim piece into position with long smooth stokes along the entire length. Don't just push down at any one point lest you break the tension in the metal (not too likely with this piece). You want to coax it into shape.Jim Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/40735-chrome-door-moulding-glass-squeegee-issue/#findComment-366118 Share on other sites
