Zedyone_kenobi Posted October 27, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2011 Just for kicks I ordered a set of NGK factory replacement wires from rockauto. Well they claim they are factory replacement. I wanted to see just how good/bad the current taylor pro wires I had on the car are. Well this was eye opening.I took off the number 1 spark plug and measured the resistance through the wire. THese are the resultsThe 9 year old Taylor 8mm wires measured 0.788 kOhmsThe brand new NGK wires measured 5.65 kOhmsThe fact that the old taylors were 6 times less resistive was amazing. Never thought that would be the case...So I now have a spare set of wires if I ever need them. What I wonder now is if the car would run any different at all with the NGKs on there. I may try one day. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/41193-spark-plug-wires-test/ Share on other sites
Gary in NJ Posted October 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2011 I always use the "dark-test" to determine the condition of my wires.I put the car in the garage, open the hood and turn off the lights. After my eyes adjust to the dark, if I see a spark show across the ignition wires, it's time for new wires. Arne Posted October 27, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2011 I can't recall, but I think the NGKs may be resistor wires. I don't think you need resistor plugs with them.Or, I could be wrong... Jetaway Posted November 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2011 I don't know why, but I felt sad when I followed your link, Arne. Shouldn't, I've never met you, or saw the car in person, but nonetheless, I do. Hope you sent a couple pairs of Duofold's for the '71 to wear in Norway. So, have you picked out another project? Taking a break? Moving to aircraft?Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/41193-spark-plug-wires-test/#findComment-370701 Share on other sites
Zedyone_kenobi Posted November 1, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted November 1, 2011 I am trying to live vicariously through Arne and talk him into an Alfa GTV project.
