Front bumper, over-riders and new guard???

Recommended Posts

I have a newly re-chromed front bumper and over-riders with new rubber strips for the guards.

My question is; I also have the period optional gurad, (the chrome bar that connects to the front over-riders).

How does this connect? Do I drill through my new rubber strips? Do I have to trim them? How does the chrome bar work along with the new rubber strips?

When I found my car in the dealer's showroom, the front and rear override bars were already installed - along with every other option the dealer could think of at that time. They had cut off the rubber on the front bumper guards, then drilled them for the override mounting screws. I suspect other dealers may have just drilled thru the rubber to mount the override bar. Probably a coin toss for you. Either way, you are going to damage the rubber to attach this piece.

I, too, purchased my car off the showroom floor with the front bumper bar already installed on the front over-rider bumpers. The rubber on the bumper, as mentioned above, was cut to accomodate the installation of the bar.

Personal preference and opinion, had I a choice originally, I would not have had these protector bars installed on either the front or rear bumpers as I think they impart greater damage to the parts they are supposedly protecting, and they detract from the appearance of the car.

Just my opinion!

Thanks guys. I bought my first 240Z back in 1979. It was a 1970 model, (it was actually sold to me as a 1969 with a build date of late 1969). It had the guard bars on it. I loved the look and am trying to re-create that car again with my new 1972.

Thanks!!
