Mark D Posted February 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 10, 2012 As you're probably aware, most of the companies that sell the re-upholstery kits (MSA, Classic Datsun, Z Car Specialties, etc.) are selling their vinyl kits for $215 - $250 (for both driver and passenger seats). In looking for a good deal, I ran across a company selling a kit for $125.00. They say the pleating is "Dialectrically" or heat sealed. They also claim that they're using original patterns, and have been manufacturing these products since 1981.Couple of questions:1) Has anyone heard of Pony Express, or purchased their product(s)?2) Was the pleating on early Z-car OEM seats ever "dialectrically sealed"?Pony Express isn't very sophisticated -- no website, no photos available, so any experience that anyone has had would be helpful.THANKS.....Mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/42242-vinyl-seat-replacement-kits/ Share on other sites
zdogg Posted February 11, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 11, 2012 I have never heard of them or used their product ....but the phrase "you get what you pay for" will surely apply, especially with seat vinylIMHO Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/42242-vinyl-seat-replacement-kits/#findComment-380444 Share on other sites

psdenno Posted February 11, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 11, 2012 2) Was the pleating on early Z-car OEM seats ever "dialectrically sealed"?Pleating seams in vinyl upholstery that aren't stitched are dialectrically sealed - melted to give the look of stitched pleats as found in leather upholstery. I believe my '71 came from the factory with dialectrically sealed pleats. Too many reupholstery jobs over the years to remember what the originals looked like.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/42242-vinyl-seat-replacement-kits/#findComment-380459 Share on other sites
EScanlon Posted February 11, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 11, 2012 no web site!!!! no pics!!!!!looks like all the makings of a scam. Not necessarily. It could be an older guy who isn't "into" computers and all they entail. If he's been in business since the 80's, he's not a new guy on the scene and should therefore be easier to check on.Check the BBB, and that will tell you if he's been a member and if so since when. They'll also know of any complaints filed and if he responded to them. You might want to ask some of the older members who may remember the name.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/42242-vinyl-seat-replacement-kits/#findComment-380461 Share on other sites

Mark D Posted February 12, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted February 12, 2012 Pony Express is mentioned in one of the posts included in this discussion thread (about half way down):http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?36725-Replacement-seat-covers-QUALITYUpon seeing mention of Pony Express Industries, which included a phone number, I phoned Pony Express and spoke with a woman. She was obviously "mature." I asked for photos of her product. She said she didn't have a camera, but said she'd have her granddaughter send me some pictures, which I'm eager to get.Assuming I get pictures, I'll post them. Thanks for your comments and perspective! Mike W Posted February 12, 2012 Share #8 Posted February 12, 2012 I have also been looking at alternatives for replacing my seat upholstery. In searcing this site, I see consistent mention of Classic Datsun Motors as well as Banzai Motors and have read good things about both of them.I have also found similar products from Z Car Source of Arizona. They have seat covers in both vinyl as well as leather and they appear to carry the foam as well. They also have a 10% off sale until this Wednesday. Has anyone here ever used their upholstery products before? I have done business with them on other items and have always had positive transactions, but I do not know much about their seat recovering products. Any comments would be appreciated.Mike.
