mjr45 Posted April 29, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 29, 2012 Does anyone know of a fix for the seat belts in my 75 Z in both seats the shoulder strap cuts into your neck and gets really annoying having to pull it off your neck constantly. Thanks. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/43080-seatbelt-is-killing-me/ Share on other sites
d240zx2 Posted April 29, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 29, 2012 Auto parts stores sell a pad, usually wool, that wraps around the belt for just this reason. You might give that a look-see. EScanlon Posted April 29, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 29, 2012 I also recall a clip of some sort that helps reposition it for smaller passengers (children, petite folks). If memory serves it just moves the shoulder strap closer to the belt with the aid of a loop that is clipped to one or both. Between the two suggestions you may find something. You might also look at repositioning the whole latch assembly by adjusting the straps on either side of the latch and the catch. This might not be possible with the 75 belts, but is definitely possible with the earlier belts.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/43080-seatbelt-is-killing-me/#findComment-388671 Share on other sites
mgood Posted April 29, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 29, 2012 My car has something from the factory that bumps into the top take up tensioner. My wife wife uses this "Loopo Seatbelt Tension Adjuster" in her car and in my RX300. http://www.seatbelttensionadjuster.com/ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/43080-seatbelt-is-killing-me/#findComment-388673 Share on other sites
Jeff G 78 Posted April 30, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 30, 2012 I have the sheepskin sleeves that Frank mentioned. They work great and stop the belts from sawing at the neck. mjr45 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted May 1, 2012 I've tried the sheepskin pads and they helped but still rub against the neck, the Loopo things I've got in truck for the same issue are OK but the seat belt flops around after taking the belt off using it on the shoulder strap, couldn't get to work by putting it on both straps where the buckle is. Guess I'll try a combo of both things to get some comfort. Jeff G 78 Posted May 1, 2012 Share #7 Posted May 1, 2012 They aren't perfect, but they do help a lot. I can tolerate the belts with the sheepskin pads, but without them, I had to wear a shirt with a collar so the belt wouldn't rub my neck. mjr45 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Share #8 Posted May 1, 2012 I'm wondering one of the engineering type folks on the site could figure out a relocation of that upper back location? Jeff G 78 Posted May 1, 2012 Share #9 Posted May 1, 2012 Put '76 - '78 belts in your car. The shoulder retractor bolts to the strut tower rather than the roof. The angle might just be enough different to ease your pains. I don't think there are any differences in the body between the '75 and later S30's. doradox Posted May 1, 2012 Share #10 Posted May 1, 2012 I'm wondering one of the engineering type folks on the site could figure out a relocation of that upper back location? How about this? The anchor shouldn't be moved. It's designed to handle crash loads. mgood Posted May 2, 2012 Share #12 Posted May 2, 2012 My seat belt shoulder strap comes out from the top of the strut tower. It comes out parallel to the ground and does not hit my neck at all and there is a plastic slide that set the tension on the take up reel. Here is a picture from the back. There are plastic covers on the take up reels. I thought all the 280's had the same setup.
