What's the best engine oil and filter to use in 260Z?

Recommended Posts

I'm assuming this isn't the first oil change in it's history.

I can't say which oil is the best so I'll let others chime in. I use Castrol Hi Mileage.

For oil filters I like Nissan, Baldwin, and K&N.

My Z is basically stock and was used as a daily driver.

There's a controversy about the quality of Fram filters which you can find in the archives.

I'd also do a search for oils as this has been covered before.

Thanks, no it's not the 1st oil change in it's history, I hope!! I have owned it a couple of months and just now getting it road worthy. I don't know what oil the previous owner used. Just wanting to get started off right. It is not a daily driver, just weekend fun ride. Thanks again........

In my 2.8ltr engine i use Millers semi-synthetic 20W/50 with a K&N HP-3001 oil filter.

With the high temperatures you've mentioned have you considered an oil cooler?

FWIW, you're robbing yourself of power using that high of a viscosity.

Would synthetic VR1 10w30 be better for a newly rebuilt motor or would the petroleum VR1? They both have the high zinc and phosphorus content. When I took the motor apart it was dark brown, almost black on the inside, crank, pistons and cam. Would synthetic do that to the motor?

On my newly rebuilt engine, 10k miles over a 4 year period, I've used regular 10w30 with a dose of my ZDDP of choice, www.cam-shield.com with a genuine Nissan 15208-43G0A filter, changed every 3000 miles on the dot.
