z boy mn Posted May 19, 2012 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2012 Hey everyone, I have a question about the interior of my 1972 240Z (wrecked...I'm parting it out). I've pulled all the panels, and I'm tempted to toss them as they're moldy and maroon. The smell is moderate, and some the plastic feels very crumbly. I can't imagine using them again unless there would be a way to restore them in some way, but I see the interior kits online and they can be kind of spendy. Has anyone tried to recondition an interior before? Am I just better off starting over? Hardway Posted May 20, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 20, 2012 Just from your description they may not be salvagable. If the plastic rear panels are crumbling toss them, they are too fragile to fix. If your door panels are complete but moldy you can mix is a solution of 1 part clorox bleach with 3 or 4 parts water. The bleach will kill the mold on contact and then you just wipe it away. If they clean up well they may be worth trying to resale. Some pics would help in better answering your question. z boy mn Posted May 20, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted May 20, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions, Hardway...I'll likely toss everything except the door panels...could be a good opportunity for me to practice with the dye kits I've seen online. The smelliest bits are probably the carpet and insulating pads anyway. tlorber Posted May 20, 2012 Share #4 Posted May 20, 2012 You might want to keep the smelly carpet to use as patterns for new ones. The kits that you buy are pretty limited in color (as Henry ford said, "you can get any color you want as long as it's black"). Reverend Posted May 21, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 21, 2012 I had similar situatin, my Z was a smoker car so it smelled like s*it, MSA panels are much sturdier but they are a bit too big, so you have to cut the extra off. Cover every panel (from behind) with Dynomat or similar if you want to quiet down the car.
