Anyone want new door cores made out of fiberglass for the vinyl kits?

Recommended Posts

the panels i got have the speaker pods in them. and that gets in the way of the crank. i talked to Pete he said that he designed them to use the electric kit. the one i am going with is the Autoloc from summit looks like the best deal.

I've seen Pete's work and it is top notch. I may do those as a temporary measure as I have a completely restored interior and no door panels. But frankly, when Les and his gang do something it is perfect in most cases. In the end, I will probably go with what Les comes up with...

Here are some pictures of Pete's work...

I noticed there is no chrome on these panels. Also I'm a bit confused, how many people are making these fiberglass replacement panels. I knew about Les' project a long time ago. Who else is doing this?

Mine came to me as blanks. They were appropriately dimensioned for the 240Z door but there were no holes at all. I mounted them up and made all the holes myself.

Can't you use your old panel as a template?

Bryan,

Not without sacrificing the old door panel. My one good one is, well - good. I didn't want to rip the vinyl off. I did take measurements for the position of the inside door pull and the other holes are pretty simple. You just mount it up and you can see through it to drill the holes where they belong. As you can see, mine does have the chrome strip.

Bryan,

I think some people are doing custom vinyl upholstery on the fiberglass core. Mine is using Les' vinyl reproduction so it does have the chrome.

Okay yeah, I'm familiar with Les' stuff it's always correct. Just wondered about that other guys panels. Anyway, I'm also wondering how many companies are making these cores. Thx.

Bryan, I think only Pete from Strictly914. Les has a guy and they are working on integrating the metal top and the panel but I think it might be a ways off. I wont say anymore than that publicly.
