This should be interesting as I plan to get some machine work done on a block and head. The default suggestion is to go to Rebello, but not everyone needs that. Piggy-backing on this thread, has anyone used any machine shops on the Peninsula with success?

Funny: LeonV I totally expected you to hop on here and give a recommendation since you're in the area. I assumed Rebello was going to be overkill but while their website is fancy, I havent heard anyone recommend them yet.

When it came to my engine, Rebello was the only choice. They know the L-Series engines inside-out, and know how to improve performance without comprimising reliability.

That said, I imagine any good head shop can handle your head work, assuming you are sticking with stock parts. They are really pretty simple to rebuild. Look for cracks, check flatness and don't let them shave too much off if it needs to be re-surfaced...

I'm thinking about something to my N42 head. How about "Cylinder Head Unlimited"? It's quite low price service.

The review @ Yelp is pretty good.
