I've about come to the conclusion that you're right. I can't find any way to separate them. Guess I'll use the breaker plate assembly from the donor dizzy.....at least it has much more fluid movement for the vacuum advance mechanism. Looks like I'm also going to have to disassemble the rest of the distributor and remove the shaft in order to get anything inside the body to clean the debris out. And I thought that this was going to be an easy job....


I didn't try to rebuild the breaker plate in my original distributor, but when I was tinkering with the ZX dizzy that I put in my car I ordered a new breaker plate assembly from a Nissan dealer. It came as one assembly, not two separate plates.
