halz Posted February 7, 2003 Share #39 Posted February 7, 2003 OK here's the scoop. Spoke to the guy. The car has a L26 but thats about the worst of it. Interior sounds very good but with cloth inserts in the seats (non orig seats?). No cracks in the dash. Very little rust (minor spot in the hatch). The suspension has been replaced with stiffer springs and nolathane bushes. Colour is silver (orig colour)and the paint is 2 years old. He probably has the original owners manual but is unsure about toolkit.I cannot see the car this weekend but I'd like too at some stage. For me, the big drawback is the engine. He apparently replaced it himself (d'oh, why choose an L26?), originally it had an RB-somethingorother. If either of you guys see it (Mr. C, W.A.Zed), drop me a pm please...:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/4489-bought-a-240z-today-perth-wa/?page=4#findComment-25975 Share on other sites
Cuong Nguyen Posted February 7, 2003 Share #40 Posted February 7, 2003 Thanks Mr C. If anyone is going to see the car, a report on the condition would be very nice to see. I willl be back in town on Tuesday, I wonder if it will be still around then!? W.A.ZED Posted February 7, 2003 Share #41 Posted February 7, 2003 o.k sounded heaps better in the add than in real life.260z motor came out of his dads 260z 2 seater (great looking car in excellent condition asking $9,500)The rb something motor was a 280 turbo that is now in his fathers 260. Motor swap. So i was told. The motor has had new rings etc and the head shaved. Keeps blowing head gaskets. Lots of oil on ground after i took it for a spin.Body is in average condition. paint job must have been a pretty cheap one at the time. Bonnet has after market flutes in it. Has simmons 3 piece rims but thay look a bit scrappy. Tyres are bald.suspension was pretty good. Had new bushes a few years ago and feels fairly tight. pulls to the left a bit.Rust has been cut out of the car and repaired. But not a very good job. The channels runnung under the floor pan have been chopped off where they had rusted and the car had been coated in a rust proofing tar. Little rust behind the seats. Don't know about the the floors as the carpet was stuck down. No rust in the spare wheel compartment or in the tool compartments. Lots of rust under the vinyl back hatch (yes it has a vinyl roof and sunroof) rust under battery had been cut out but the new piece welded in had not even been ground back before painting.Inside of car is pretty average bright blue carpet everywhere, dash is good no cracks, seats are not original. My opinion is that the car would be great if you just wanted to put a 280turbo or rb motor in it and thrash it around the track or club events. But generally its had a pretty hard life and would require a full resto.Don't want to put anyone off but its not quite the car its made out to be in the add. Still worth a look just for interest sake. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/4489-bought-a-240z-today-perth-wa/?page=4#findComment-25995 Share on other sites
Cuong Nguyen Posted February 7, 2003 Share #42 Posted February 7, 2003 Thanks WA ZED,I think I may have seen that car around before. Does it have a two-tone paint job (maybe silver and blue) or pinstriping?I once saw a 240Z around the Ocean Reef area that reminds me of what you had just described (there aren't that many 240Z in Perth!)As for a zed with sunroof, I don't think that I would jump to buying one too quickly.... W.A.ZED Posted February 8, 2003 Share #43 Posted February 8, 2003 that could be the one.silver paint, black vinyl roof and black/dark blue paint on the bonnet bulge. Mr Camouflage Posted February 9, 2003 Author Share #46 Posted February 9, 2003 Your wing/guard/fender mounted rear view mirrors aren't legal in WA.Got something to do with being a danger to pedestrians if you run them over. All the second hand jap imports that came over in the 80's had fender mounted mirrors, and they all had to be removed and mounted futher back on the doors before they could be registered. W.A.ZED Posted February 9, 2003 Share #47 Posted February 9, 2003 phew thought you had some really bad news for me.Those abominations will be the first things to go when I start on the exterior tidy up. Got a set of falcon GT mirrors somewhere in the shed that I will put on.At the moment I have just stripped out the seats and carpet and have removed all that black rubber sound retardent/rust inhibiting stuff.(chisel and hammer job, not much fun in this weather). does not look pretty under there. will have to start cutting and welding in new floor pieces over the next few weeks.Got to put the car up on a hoist and have really good look underneath. Have some pics of the car as it was purchased. will upload them today and post new pics as I go along with the work.what you doing to your z Mr C. trs Posted February 9, 2003 Share #48 Posted February 9, 2003 goddamit..anyone know if this pedestrian law applies to vehicles pre ADR?i.e before 1972 and without compliance plates. [most of the literature i read on the dotars and rta sites, are very scarce about pre adr vehicle rules.... occasionally they will give you a bit of leeway, and occasionally not...its all very vague]I have one original old datsun sports fender mirror sitting out the back waiting to be mounted one day.
