daddz Posted February 6, 2003 Share #25 Posted February 6, 2003 Alan T:My friend Joe may be able to help with your quest to find the highest export S30 VIN#; He currently owns a 1971 240Z that has covered just 54,000 miles from new and it still wears its original hatch with the air extractor vents and vertical defroster lines and has a stock interior with the original radio still present. His website address is as follows:http://www.240ztt.com/nissan.html(this page has the links to a few of his cars as well as 3/5 of my humble collection)I wish it were possible to view one comprehensive database combining salient features of S30 production changes. For example: in the states in '77 280Z's the rear cargo floor angles up at the back to cover the back of the tailights, yet in late '77 production towards the '78 model year the cargo floor was made flat again, and thus the backside of the tailights had a trim panel. Zedrally Posted February 6, 2003 Share #26 Posted February 6, 2003 Ahhhhhhhh, all these years I've thought matching numbers where chassis/engine numbers.not matching numbers from the plateeeeeeeee, can't wait to get home and check both cars.....[see you can learn something new] Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/4489-bought-a-240z-today-perth-wa/?page=3#findComment-25834 Share on other sites
Mr Camouflage Posted February 6, 2003 Author Share #27 Posted February 6, 2003 Mostly you may find that the engine number on the engine wont match the id tags, usually because the engine had been exchanged. Some exgine reconditioners just have engines built up ready to swap, for a quick changover. So you take in your car and they take out the engine, put in one they already done, and keep you engine, then someone else get your engine later.Mostly with common cars like commodores or falcons.I'd rater wait a week while they rebuild my engine. trs Posted February 6, 2003 Share #28 Posted February 6, 2003 hmm interesting...my aus delivered Z was made 11/71HS30-1461 (if my rusty memory serves me correctly)as far as front airdams go,I finally found a place in sydney with reasonable prices. It pretty much looks like every other aftermarket front airdam you can see in australia (ive never seen anything that was different unless it was custom).[ should be a few in the gallery- has 2 slits along the floor edge].200 dollars through a wholesaler. I can hook you up with the contacts if needed. (usually costs a few hundred more).http://www.fibresports.com.au/Datsun%20Kits.htm Disregard the other horribly ugly bits of the bodykit. The front bar itself isnt too bad. I ordered mine yesterday and should pick it up by friday. MicksZ Posted February 6, 2003 Share #29 Posted February 6, 2003 Mr. C, Nice zed buddy! I got a 73 240Z and mine is in mph - i think it was the 260Z's that had kmh speedo's. I have owned a 1200 Coupe and a 1000 sedan previous so i like the mph speed's. sjcurtis Posted February 6, 2003 Share #30 Posted February 6, 2003 TRS, That spoiler may as well be the one on my 73 Z (AVTAR), I bought mine at Z/16 at Girraween over ten years ago believe me I have hammered it on the open road (in the open speed zones between fixed speed cameras) and no complaints, it has great suck down above 50MPH indicated. If you use that beauty your car will be really stable at speed and your Z's nose wont float or wonder.I have to agree with Micks Z "not all fast Z,s are painted red" but to be fair all Z's painted red are fast.thanks for the imput AlanMy 2CSteve:classic: Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/4489-bought-a-240z-today-perth-wa/?page=3#findComment-25860 Share on other sites
MicksZ Posted February 6, 2003 Share #31 Posted February 6, 2003 Steve, I reckon we ALL agree that most zed's are fast, and not dependant on colour - although i like my orange one.... There was one sitting in someones front yard, hadn't moved for ages, 2 foot of grass growing around it. I was tempted to knock on the door and ask them to sell it to me so many times. Drove past after i got my Zed and it was gone, and the lawn had been mowed.
