jmortensen Posted March 1, 2013 Share #14 Posted March 1, 2013 Used to sell diff parts, business failed. Didn't do a lot of installs, but I've done more than most people at about 10. five&dime Posted March 1, 2013 Share #15 Posted March 1, 2013 A friend of mine who has only done one or two suggested a beam or dial type inch pound torque from a bike shop for only $30 or so in order to get the preload specs. Would you agree with that? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/45869-ring-and-pinion/?page=2#findComment-416581 Share on other sites
jmortensen Posted March 1, 2013 Share #16 Posted March 1, 2013 The only dial type that I've ever seen in Snap-On and it's $250 last I checked. A cheapo beam works, and you want to spin it just fast enough that you overcome the stiction so the needle doesn't bounce around. Carl Beck Posted March 1, 2013 Share #17 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi Jon: Weren't Ring & Pinion sets sold in matched set's, which you didn't get if you ordered the parts individually? I recall running into that problem at one time...FWIW,Carl B. jmortensen Posted March 1, 2013 Share #18 Posted March 1, 2013 R&Ps are matched sets. I've never heard of anyone selling a ring or pinion separately for that reason. Have seen the odd instance where a guy tries to change from a 3.70 to a 3.90 by installing a 39 tooth ring gear onto a 10 tooth pinion out of a 3.70 and that absolutely does not work. WW2Winger Posted April 9, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted April 9, 2013 Is your diff a LSD? Too bad, but I have a 3:90 open R-200 that we could have done some swapping. Let me know....
