Weber fuel bowl question

Okay we run air filters, and fuel filters all day long. WE clean them and we obsess over them. But the part that I baffles me is why do we kill ourselves when the front of the Weber has a 12mm hole in it that lets air in for the idle circuit to work. THat is unfiltered air. WE do not even try to filter that air.

When I recently removed my webers and cleaned them there was DIRT in the very bottom of the bowls. DIRT.

I removed it and all is well, but why do we never make an effort to filter the air coming in that huge gaping hole.

The air filter should cover it. I have seen K&N and RAMFLO filters that do...take a look at the plate with the hole here:

I'm with Phil, my filtration setup is similar. There are plenty of housings on the market that cover the front of the carb and can also support air horns, if that's what you're worried about.

hummmmm.

I had not considered those kinds of filters. I run those sweet but marginally functional velocity stack filters...

I may have to invest in a set of those as long as I can use my velocity stacks.

Well here is my baby with the new K&N filter set up. Really fills up the engine bay. I have no doubt they will work better than my velocity stack filters, But they are a bit tight around the coil and the master cylinder. Took digging deep into my specialty tools to get a screwdriver that short!

Sweet! Could you post the part number and vendor? I'd imagine having wingnuts in the center instead of screws would help the space situation.

I need to get some for my 45s, I've got those mesh filters on the air horns currently. I plan to do some testing on air filters when I hit the dyno again.

The resto 71 I did has the same set-up. I have to remove the brake master to remove filter #5&6

but it is a pretty cadmium NOS part, I must leave it. As you know a car is faster the more cad plated hardware it has. CAd plating is like putting a Type R sticker on your HOnda...

Leon, GREAT find. I have no idea why I did not look at Piercemanifolds myself. I love their stuff.

Oh I got my lever arms from the UK Aston Martin shop. I will snap some pics of it tonight. They are pretty cool.

Agree on the cadmium and the impact that it has on speed. I had trouble keeping up with Zedy at the Texas Vintage 1000 rally and come to find out, it was the cadmium all along.

OH mike is being funny...

His green Z put up some top speed runs that made a few Porsches tuck their tail and run.

Lets put it this way...MIke and Alex said it best. The Porsches ran out of testicular fortitude before the Z ran out of top end!
