Higuys,

Does anyone know the part #, or a source, (not a junkyard) for a 1994 Maxima door Chime/lights-on reminder unit? It's about the only "ding-dong" sound that you can get for under $1000.

I'd like to use it as a lights-on reminder. Does anyone have any favourite chime sound units that you can actually buy?

thxZ

I found the first generation Integra (85-89) headlight chime to be quite polite. Not the key in the lock warning, but the headlight chime.

The key left in lock is your ubiquitous "beep-beep-beep-beep", but the headlights are this very polite "bing-bong" thing. Sounded like they even used mechanical bells struck by a clapper of some sort instead of it being electrically generated.

Don't know if you can buy the module aftermarket, but if you're junkyard hopping, it might give you another alternative to try. Might also be on later modules as well, but I don't know for sure.

I just like the ding-dong of the older Maxima. It's not so 'mechanical-sounding.' Any light ding-dong chime will do, but be aware that many manufacturers are using the vehicle's stereo system for the chimes and buzzers, which I think is dumb. :disappoin

Any S130 (ZX) will also have the Ding-Dong chime you speak of. For me, I kinda like the buzzer of the old Z - Depending on the weather, mine either is buzzing as it should - or it sounds like it is real drunk, almost like a sad cartoon buzzer. That is one of the many charms of the Z.

Mine does that too, and I can't help but laugh at it sometimes. Bzzzz...Bzzzz...bbghghzzz... Sometimes it sounds like it randomly gets tossed into a bucket of water and it's drowning.

Some research by my friend Loy tells me that the ding-dong dingers were used even on the '94 Maximas, but I suspect that the more modern units are probably more than just a little box with a 2-pin connector. Is that correct? For example, the beeper/chime on my '97 Escort has 4 connectors with about 8 wires on each (or about 30 connections.)

I was able to get one from eBay, and it was either a dud, or you just can't hook it up to a car battery. Without a wiring diagram for the vehicle it was from, I can't do anything more to get it to work.

The odd thing about this unit is that it is pretty much a mechanical chime like your average house doorbell.

there is a Durite Buzzer, 12 volt Cd1 - 0-562-00 that is an electronic unit, but I can't locate a sound file or video for it to confirm the kind of sound it actually has. Maybe someone can share their knowledge of the Durite chime?

Andrew, I agree about the charm of the Z's buzzer. It sounds very much like a hangover from the Cold War, along with the big, hunkin' "seat belt" light that flashes with it. I kept mine intact for a very long time, smiling whenever it would buzz. But eventually I got tired of listening to it. I disconnected it, just as I've done with almost every other door chime I've ever had. However, it's still there under the dash, just waiting to be plugged back in for a trip down memory lane. Maybe I should put a switch under the dash to turn it off and on, depending on my mood.

I elected to go a different route. The coil will be powered off of the ignition switch. I'm going to wire this buzzer through the normally closed contact and power the buzzer off of the running lights circuit.
