Pomorza Posted August 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2013 GuysEver since I bought my Z in 2009, it seems that everytime I do an oil change the car will be noisy for the first week or so afterwards. By noisy I mean I can hear the chain rattle at idle and when I let off the throttle. I originally thought it was the chain and replaced it - about two years ago - but it didn't really change anything. I'm going to take the front cover off in the future to replace it, but I wondering if anyone has any ideas of what this could be and why it does it after oil changed. Patcon Posted August 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 18, 2013 How long is it noisy? Is it noisy only on the first start up or for several start ups? More details?C Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/47217-chain-rattle-after-oil-change/#findComment-429973 Share on other sites
Pomorza Posted August 18, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted August 18, 2013 PatconIts noise for the first few minutes after start up - I would say about 10 minutes tops. It will do it for a week or two, as in be noisy, and then stop completely as if nothing ever happened. Diseazd Posted August 20, 2013 Share #10 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) What kind of damper bolt and washer is in your damper? I used one of the Nismo damper bolt sets with the drop down washer once with a stock damper. When you torqued it up, it set down in the damper against the nose of the crank without really snugging up the crank pulley, worm gear and oil slinger. If the washer you're using isn't flat (as in one plane), this could be your problem. It results in chain noise and will drive you crazy trying to figure out where it came from. Zed Head Posted August 20, 2013 Share #11 Posted August 20, 2013 everytime I do an oil change the car will be noisy for the first week or so afterwards. This probably happens for the same reason that my car runs smoother and faster, and handles better, after I wash it.The engine and car are just happier and show their appreciation by putting out more effort. In your case, it's a rattle of joy, joy at having fresh lubricating and cooling fluid. Pomorza Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted August 21, 2013 Interesting updateSo this is what I've noticed. The said rattle noise occurs during two occasions. It will occur when I first start the car, there will be a bit of a rattle from the top end for a few moments. Then the noise will only occur on decel of the motor, as in, if I rev it to say 3500 and let the throttle go it will rattel at around 1800 rpm.
