Extending my Z hunt to include the 260 version, opinions welcome

Recommended Posts

I have come across a few 260Z that seems to be demanding less money than a 240, I know that they are not the same, the dash , console , the rear lights , door cards, front grill/parking lights, the bumpers plus a few more . But some of the 240Z look can be ease to do , I have seen some with the rear lights and bumper retrofit, to me that is the right look for this sport car. So lets see of a nice, clean, upgraded with looks plus performance goodies shows up in my hunt.

Buying a Z is like dating. The more you expand your search parameters, the more likely you are to score. However, just like dating, if you settle for second best and hope you can change the things she does to annoy you, you're in for a BIG, perhaps costly, disappointment.

Currently my dating pool is compose of 40 something trim ladies, same age as my future Z, good to see a 66 young yr like you in the dating scene ;)

That second line was not on your initial post. So are you indicating that a 260Z is second best :bulb:

I would look for a early model. The late models are heavier and have the 280 bumpers. They are also down on performance. If you pick up a 260z make sure they have the round top carbs. The round top carbs takes care of the drivability issues. Adjust the valves, and carbs, then find someone who has a stock 240. Ask him, if he would like to run a 260.

The early model 260z is like the 240z. The interior on the 260z is like the 75-76 280z. The interior was a major upgrade that was needed. It also has a rear sway bar and taillights like the 280. The 260 has the best stock intake (N-36) and cam. The main problem with the 260z was the flat top carbs.Mine ran great until it reached app. 45,000 miles then it just died. IT would not run 60 mph,it would start vapor locking. The 72 carbs made a big difference.

^^^ good info , thanks. The dash on the 240 is so European looking, that appeals to me , it has that simple yet GT look , the one on the 260 for some reason has less personality . But if it is crack free I can live with it , like I have mention before, no hurry in this hunt.

No, however you seemed to imply that the 260Z wasn't you 1st choice in the title of this thread " Extending my Z hunt to include the 260 version, opinions welcome".

And, since opinions are like belly buttons - everyone has one, I offered mine. Opinion that is. :)

Haven't been in the "dating scene" for decades. Merely trying to help you make a decision with an analogy based on my 42 years as a Z owner - some of the early ones in the dating scene.
