jfa.series1 Posted July 31, 2014 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2014 Mine was an ARA unit installed by the dealer. Big, honkin' York compressor mounted on a frame that surrounded the fuel pump. Altho the A/C is no longer installed, I've kept the console switch and the evaporator unit that mounted on the heater box in case I decide to put A/C back in the car. Zulaytr Posted August 1, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2014 All of the a/c units were dealer installed. The factory supported unit was made by Frigiking but ARA made one also that many people had installed. psdenno Posted August 1, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 1, 2014 ARA unit installed by a Chevrolet dealer shortly after I sought the Z new in '71.Dennis Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/49743-original-ac-units/#findComment-452593 Share on other sites
Hunter260Z Posted August 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2014 I also had York compressor. Did you just cut and plug the dryer and compressor hose. The hoses are a bear to get off. xs10shl Posted August 7, 2014 Share #6 Posted August 7, 2014 There was a factory-installed unit available for JDM (and other non-US countries? Anyone know?) which was made by Hitachi which can be retrofitted to US cars, although I've personally never seen it done. bpilati Posted August 8, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 8, 2014 No factory air existed prior to the 260Z as far as I know. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/topic/49743-original-ac-units/#findComment-452969 Share on other sites
xs10shl Posted August 8, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 8, 2014 Factory air was available in the 1969-73 RHD Z-L models as an option, but i've only ever seen 2 installations, so it must not have been a very common option. I'd imagine it'd be straightforward to fit it to an export 240Z, if you could find the parts.
